Over 240 million people are infected with schistosomiasis. Detecting Schistosoma mansoni eggs in stool using Kato-Katz thick smears (Kato-Katzs) is highly specific but lacks sensitivity. The urine-based point-of-care circulating cathodic antigen test (POC-CCA) has higher sensitivity, but issues include specificity, discrepancy between batches and interpretation of trace results. A semi-quantitative G-score and latent class analyses making no assumptions about trace readings have helped address some of these issues. However, intra-sample and inter-sample variation remains unknown for POC-CCAs.

This study examined anxiety in Wiedemann-Steiner syndrome (WSS). Eighteen caregivers and participants with WSS completed the parent- and self-report versions of the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorder or the adapted version of the Screen for Adult Anxiety Related Disorder. We present a patient with a neck burn scar contracture. A parascapular free flap is used to re-surface the cervical defect, while the resultant donor-site defect is reconstructed by a freestyle pedicled thoracodorsal artery perforator flap. With the introduction of a freestyle pedicled perforator flap, large-sized donor-site defects of the parascapular flap can be closed easily and safely with minimal donor-site morbidity. Pediatric patients account for approximately one third of all burn patients in the United States, with upper extremity or hand involvement in most admitted burn patients. Specialized management and care of pediatric burn patients optimizes functional outcomes. Common mechanisms of injury are discussed. Acute and long-term care aspects of pediatric upper extremity and hand burns require unique considerations.
