BACKGROUND: Despite a lack of evidence and low compliance, current guidelines recommend the use of a vaginal dilator (VD) after pelvic radiotherapy (RT). We analyzed the effect of VD on vaginal stenosis (VS) and its influence on sexual quality of life (QoL) in women treated with adjuvant RT for endometrial cancer (EC).

PURPOSE: To analyze the outcomes of a new technique (corneal remodeling) to treat corneal ectasia.
METHODS: Sixty-nine cases that underwent corneal remodeling were analyzed. Anesthetic drops were instilled and a femtosecond laser platform was used to perform an 8-mm diameter keratectomy (180°, 270°, or 360°). Hoarseness of voice due to recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy is an uncommon manifestation of cardiothoracic disease. Ortner's syndrome is hoarseness attributed to mechanical compression of the left recurrent laryngeal nerve in association with several cardiopulmonary disease states. We here describe a rare case of Ortner's syndrome developing in a 60-year-old woman with a giant left atrium in the context of rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. The remarkable resolution of her voice hoarseness within 1 week of valve replacement surgery has not been reported in similar cases to date.

Steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) causes 15% of chronic kidney disease (CKD). We report the case of a 20-year-old male who was operated for a large ruptured aneurysm of the right common carotid artery, revealing a Behcet's disease. The aneurysm was excised and the right common carotid artery was repaired with a polytetrafluoroethylene prosthesis. None of the criteria of the International Study Group for Behcet's disease was present at the time of the diagnosis.
