Nutritional knowledge, insulin resistance, and the risk of orthorexia nervosa: a comparative cross-sectional study among polish women.

BACKGROUND: The global rise in insulin resistance has led to an increased emphasis on dietary modifications as a primary strategy for its management. While such interventions are essential for improving metabolic health, they can also contribute to heightened nutritional knowledge. However, this increased focus on diet may inadvertently lead to the development of disordered eating patterns, including orthorexia nervosa. This study aimed to determine the level of nutritional knowledge regarding proper eating habits among women with insulin resistance and to assess the relationship between this

The Path from Childhood Emotional Maltreatment to Disordered Eating Behaviors: The Role of Reflective Functioning and Food Addiction.

Introduction: Childhood emotional maltreatment, which includes emotional abuse and neglect, has been identified as a significant risk factor for the development of disordered eating behaviors related to overeating and reduced dietary control. At the same time, the literature suggests that childhood emotional maltreatment appears to be linked to deficits in reflective functioning which, in turn, may increase vulnerability to dysregulated, impulsive, and addictive behaviors. However, to date, the role of a key factor, such as food addiction (FA), within this model has not yet been investigated.

However, a diabetic patient's increased focus on diet and weight control, although necessary, can lead to disturbed eating habits, medical complications, and "resistance" to treatment. The term "diabulimia" refers to the eating disorder in which patients with T1

Relative abilities of young sheep and goats to self-medicate with tannin-rich sainfoin when infected with gastrointestinal nematodes.

Plant secondary metabolites (PSM) are one of the promising options to control gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep and goats. The objective of this study was to assess the abilities of sheep and goats to self-medicate with tannin-rich sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) (SF) when infected with gastrointestinal nematodes, using a cafeteria and an operant conditioning trial. Hypotheses were that parasitized (P) lambs and goat kids would show greater intake and preference for SF than their non-parasitized (NP) counterparts, that kids would eat more SF than lambs (due to their lower resistance against

Multidisciplinary intervention for childhood feeding difficulties.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to determine whether operant conditioning (OC) or systematic desensitization (SysD) intervention resulted in more improvements in dietary variety/intake, and more reductions in difficult mealtime behaviors. METHODS: Children 2 to 6 years with autism spectrum disorder or with a nonmedically complex history were recruited. Feeding difficulties were confirmed based on clinical assessment. Participants were randomized to receive 10 OC or SysD sessions (parents could opt for intervention once per week, or intensively within a week). Immersive parent education wa

Childhood abuse victimization, stress-related eating, and weight status in young women.

PURPOSE: Abuse in childhood predicts stress-related overeating and excess weight gain in young women. We investigated whether two stress-related overeating behaviors--binge eating and coping-motivated eating--explain childhood abuse associations with weight status in young women. METHODS: Analyses included 4377 women participating in the Growing Up Today Study, a longitudinal cohort of youth enrolled at age 9 to 14 years. We used marginal structural models to estimate the effects of abuse before age 11 years on weight status at age 22 to 29 years with and without adjustment for binge eating a

Tifton hay, soybean hulls, and whole cottonseed as fiber source in spineless cactus diets for sheep.

The objective of this paper was to evaluate the effect of three different sources of fiber (tifton hay, soybean hulls, and whole cottonseed) in spineless cactus diets for sheep in the semiarid region of northeastern Brazil. Twenty-one sheep in finishing phase with indeterminate breed, non-castrated, and with initial weight of 18.90 ± 1.07 kg were randomly distributed to individual stalls where they were confined for the duration of the experiment. The intakes of dry and organic matter, total carbohydrates, and total digestive nutrients were not influenced (P > 0.10) by the different fiber sour

Matching plant and animal processes to alter nutrient supply in strip-grazed cattle: timing of herbage and fasting allocation.

This work aimed to assess the impact of timing of herbage allocation and fasting on patterns of ingestive behavior, herbage intake, ruminal fermentation, nutrient flow to the duodenum, and site and extent of digestion. Treatments were daily herbage allocation in the afternoon (1500 h, AHA), morning (0800 h, MHA), AHA after 20 h of fasting (AHAF), and MHA after 20 h of fasting (MHAF). Four ruminally and duodenally fistulated heifers (279 +/- 99 kg of BW) individually strip-grazed wheat pastures in a Latin-square design. Eating, rumination, and idling behavior were recorded every 2 min, and bite

Parenting stress in families with very low birth weight preterm infants in early infancy.

Taking care of a premature infant adds an extra burden to already stressed parents. Previous studies have shown that parental stress occurs during the initial hospitalization. However, there is little information on parental stress over time, and the few existing results are conflicting. In addition, many studies have focused on maternal stress but there is little information about a father's long-term adaptation to stress. The purpose of this study was to examine the degree and type of parenting stress in the families of very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm infants over the first two years of

Graded replacement of corn grain with molassed sugar beet pulp modulates the fecal microbial community and hindgut fermentation profile in lactating dairy cows.

High starch lactation diets not only enhance the risk of subacute ruminal acidosis but also of hindgut acidosis, which increases the risk of dysbiosis and the depression of fiber degradation. We recently showed that replacing corn with molassed sugar beet pulp (Bp) improved fiber degradation in high-producing dairy cattle, possibly because of an improvement of rumen and hindgut conditions for microbes by Bp feeding. However, little is known about the effects of high inclusion rates of Bp on hindgut microbes and fermentation. Thus fecal grab samples were taken from 18 high-yielding Simmental co

The Equipment Used in the SF6 Technique to Estimate Methane Emissions Has No Major Effect on Dairy Cow Behavior.

The natural behavior of animals can be disrupted by the techniques and materials of research methodologies. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the equipment used in the SF6 tracer technique to estimate enteric methane emissions on the behavior of lactating dairy cows. The cows (n = 24) were allocated to one of two diets: CONTROL and experimental diet (MIX). Behavior was assessed through video recordings between milking times during four phases: 3 days before fitting the cows with the SF6 equipment (PRE), first 2 days after the cows were fitted with the SF6 equipment (ADAP), 3 days duri

The mediating effect of food ınsecurity in the relationship between food ınflation and eating behaviors: a case of nursing students.

INRODUCTION: Nursing students may be particularly vulnerable to food insecurity because of their intensive academic and clinical demands. Although food insecurity has been studied among university and nursing students, limited research has examined the links between food-price pressures, socioeconomic factors, and nutritional behavior, particularly the statistical mediating role of food insecurity. This study examined these relationships among nursing students. METHODS: This cross-sectional correlational study included 250 undergraduate nursing students from the Department of Nursing at Kilis

Genomic and physiological changes in a sexually selected and frugivorous bird radiation.

Across diverse organisms, the strength and ecological drivers of sexual selection vary enormously. In birds, some of the families with the most elaborate plumage and display-such as birds of paradise, manakins, and cotingas-are also specialist frugivores, yet links between shifts in diet, changes in breeding system, and the evolution of elaborate traits are poorly understood. We focus on manakins, a radiation of frugivorous Neotropical birds well known for spectacular courtship rituals and colorful plumage, and present an integrative analysis of the transition in both diet and mating systems i
