Studies were performed in conscious rats to evaluate the role of renal prostaglandin biosynthesis in demeclocycline-induced polyuria. Three groups of animals were evaluated. Group 1 animals received only the diluents used for both demeclocycline and indomethacin. Group 2 received demeclocycline (20 mg/kg/day) and the indomethacin diluent. Group 3 received both demeclocycline and indomethacin (10 mg/kg/day). In 2 of the six patients with impaired kidney function glomerula filtration are increased, as documented by a decrease in serum creatinine values. The results show that percutaneous transluminal dilatation may be a valuable method in the management of renovascular hypertension.

Filterability and morphology of cyanate-treated sickle cells were compared to those of untreated cells at equal oxygen saturations to determine whether carbamylation inhibited sickling by an effect other than by its alteration of the oxygen dissociation curve. This review describes the three ways of plasmapheresis in patients with myasthenia gravis: plasma exchange (PE), double filtration plasmapheresis (DFP) and immunoadsorption (IA). DFP or IA was used for selective removal of antibodies to acetylcholine receptor without replacement of albumin. Plasmapheresis is indicated in patients with myasthenic crisis or before thymectomy. Comparative studies between plasmapheresis and high-dose of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) showed similar transient improvement on myasthenic symptoms up to 4 to 8 weeks.
