Retrospective analysis of traumatic triradiate cartilage injury in children.

BACKGROUND: To summarize and analyze the epidemiological characteristics, treatment and corresponding curative effect of triradiate cartilage injury(TCI) in children after trauma, to provide a theoretical basis for early diagnosis and improvement of treatment. METHODS: The TCI was classified according to Bucholz classification, and the final curative effect was evaluated with Harris Hip Score and imaging examination during follow-up. Finally, a comprehensive analysis was made by reviewing the cases in the literature combined with the patients in our hospital. RESULTS: A total of 15 cases (18

[A boy with a twisted knee].

A 14-year-old boy presented with a painful knee following a distorsion. He was unable to actively extend his lower leg. Conventional radiography showed no signs of a fracture. Both ultrasound imaging and MRI, however, demonstrated haemarthrosis and an osteochondral defect of the lateral femoral condyle. Apparently, an osteochondral lesion had developed due to patellar luxation. The osteochondral fragment was fixated using absorbable compression screws.

Isolated transcalcaneal talonavicular dislocation: a severe injury related to a low-energy mechanism.

Transcalcaneal talonavicular dislocation is a rare injury, with very few reported cases. Of these, most have been the result of high-energy mechanisms such as road traffic collisions or falls from a height. The management of this injury is challenging, and treatment is fraught with a high rate of disability, infection, and amputation. We describe the successful management of the first reported case of a low-energy transcalcaneal talonavicular dislocation in a 71-year-old female. Combined external and internal fixation was used to reduce and maintain the injury, with a resultant good functional

The relationship between Hill-Sachs lesion and recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation.

The relationship between the number of shoulder dislocations and the depth and percent of head involvement of the Hill-Sachs lesions was investigated in this study. Thirty patients with recurrent anterior dislocation of the shoulder were divided into three groups according to the numbers of dislocations they had presented: Group 1: 1 to 5 dislocations ; Group 2: 6 to 20; Group 3: over 20. The mean percentage of head involvement was 11.9% in the first group, 25.4% in the second group and 26% in the third group of patients with Hill-Sachs lesions. The average depth of the Hill-Sachs lesions was

Patellar fracture following surgery for patellar instability.

We present a case of patellar fracture in a teenager that followed a soft tissue realignment surgery for patellar instability. We propose that this fracture was due to disruption of the blood supply to the patella as a result of the procedure. To our knowledge this complication, which has been documented following Total Knee Arthroplasty, has not been documented in the English literature before.

Severely displaced fracture of the thoracic spine without neurologic lesion. A case report.

The author reports a case of severely displaced fracture of the thoracic spine without neurologic damage in a 27-year-old man. The lesion was treated by open reduction, internal fixation, and posterolateral spinal fusion. A precise description of the clinical, radiographic, and CT features of the lesion is provided in order to facilitate proper classification and treatment.

Delayed diagnosis of extremity injuries in patients with multiple injuries.

A total of 340 patients treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Helsinki University Central Hospital were analyzed in this study. They had in all 1,071 fractures and luxations of the pelvis and extremities, of which the trauma surgeons and radiologists on duty initially missed 45 injuries, i.e., 4.2%. Taking into account the eventual late symptoms, the most severe delayed diagnoses were of injuries located around the hip and knee joints. The patients with delayed diagnoses were, on the average, the most severely ill: their needs for primary blood

Fronto-orbito nasal dislocations. Initial total reconstruction.

The craniofacial trauma can produce compound fractures with bone displacement in the central part of the upper face, i.e. the bones constituting the forehead, orbit, and nose. such dislocations are called fronto-orbito-nasal dislocations. A total and definite surgical reconstruction in one stage offers advantages such as good aesthetic and functional results. An injured person can enter professional and social life without further delay. A major advantage is also the minimizing of the risk of meningeal fistula with infectious mortal risk. A prerequisite for this surgery is accurate clinical an
