Psychometrics properties of self-reported pain sensitivity measures in individuals with shoulder pain.

BackgroundCentral sensitization (CS) is increasingly recognized as a key contributor to persistent shoulder pain. While self-report tools such as the Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI) and the Pain Sensitivity Questionnaire (PSQ) are commonly used to assess CS, the psychometric properties of these tools have not been established in individuals with shoulder pain.ObjectiveThis study aimed to examine the convergent validity and test-retest reliability of the CSI and PSQ by comparing them with objective pain sensitivity measures.MethodsFifty-three adults with chronic shoulder pain completed th

Clinical and Molecular Characterization of Five Additional Individuals With SATB2-Associated Syndrome in Guangxi.

SATB2-associated syndrome (SAS) is a multisystemic disorder characterized by developmental delay, moderate to profound intellectual disability, speech delay and/or absent speech, behavioral issues such as autistic tendencies, agitation or aggressive outbursts, self-injury, impulsivity, hyperactivity, anxiety and sleeping difficulties. Alterations in the SATB2 gene have been identified as pathogenic causes of SAS. No formal clinical diagnostic criteria have been established for SAS, and molecular disruption of SATB2 is necessary to confirm the diagnosis. To investigate the molecular pathogenesi

Effects of combined cerebellar tACS-iTBS in individuals with ataxia (EtABeta): a crossover investigation.

BACKGROUND: Cerebellar ataxia (CA) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive impairments in coordination, balance, and gait disturbances. Conventional rehabilitation therapies offer only limited benefits, driving interest toward exploring alternative non-invasive interventions. Among these, non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, such as cerebellar transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) and intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) have emerged as promising approaches. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of a combined cerebellar tACS-iTBS proto

Gait Kinematic Adaptations Following Schroth Therapy in Individuals with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis.

Background: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) alters postural control and movement coordination. This study investigated the dynamic biomechanical effects of Schroth therapy on AIS kinematics. Methods: Twelve young individuals with AIS completed a standardized Schroth therapy program, while twelve healthy participants served as controls. Three-dimensional gait kinematics were recorded using the Xsens MVN Awinda during walking at a self-selected speed. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted for the analysis of trunk, pelvic, and lower-extremity kinematics. Results: Changes we

A public dataset of treadmill walking kinematics and kinetics at steady speeds in healthy individuals.

Human motion analysis is widely used in clinical practice to characterise motor function, gait impairments, and fall risk. However, available gait datasets are predominantly acquired at self-selected walking speeds and rarely include standardised slower speeds, despite their relevance for clinical populations. This article describes a publicly available dataset of three-dimensional gait kinematics and kinetics collected in healthy adults under controlled treadmill conditions. Forty-five participants, including young and older adults, performed walking trials at six predefined speeds ranging fr

Individual differences in speech monitoring: Functional and structural correlates of delayed auditory feedback.

Sensory feedback is essential for the fine-tuning of motor actions, and speech production is no exception. It depends on continuous self-monitoring to ensure that produced sounds match intended targets. Delaying auditory feedback (DAF) disrupts this alignment and impairs fluency, providing a powerful tool to investigate sensorimotor control. We combined functional and diffusion-weighted MRI in 31 participants performing a word-production task under delayed (DAF) and immediate (no-DAF) auditory feedback. While all participants slowed their speech under DAF, the extent of this effect varied acro

Association of Thyroid Function and Hormone Sensitivity With Abdominal Fat in Individuals With Overweight and Obesity.

AIMS: The association between thyroid function and body fat distribution remains controversial, particularly regarding visceral and liver fat depots, which are highly predictive of cardiometabolic risk. We aimed to assess the associations of thyroid hormone levels and indices of thyroid hormone sensitivity with abdominal fat depots in adults with overweight and obesity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 272 adults (53.3% women) with a mean body mass index (BMI) of 32.9 (5.9) kg/m2. Thyroid function parameters (TSH, FT4, FT3, TT4RI, TSHI, FT3/FT4) and abdominal fat dis

Mediolateral and anteroposterior balance control during Sit-to-Stand in individuals with transfemoral amputation.

Lower limb amputation alters postural control by eliminating anatomical structures involved in weight transfer and somatosensory feedback. This study investigated sit-to-stand (STS) biomechanics in transfemoral amputees (TFAs), focusing on directional and phase-specific balance-control alterations compared with able-bodied individuals. Eleven unilateral TFAs and six able-bodied controls were recruited. Data from seven TFAs and six controls were included in the primary fixed-foot balance analysis after exclusion of four TFA participants who exhibited repeated foot-relocation behaviours during S

Mapping the Sacculo-collic and Otolith-ocular Pathway Dysfunction in Individuals with Vestibular Migraine.

BACKGROUND: Vestibular migraine is the second most common cause of dizziness and is characterized by variability in migraine symptom presentation, duration, and temporal relationship to vestibular symptoms. Studies have reported alterations in amplitude and latency of vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials among individuals with vestibular migraine. But these reports have limitations in terms of sample size, number of tests, and confirmation of the diagnosis. METHODS: A prospective standard group comparison design was employed for this study. Seventy-six individuals with confirmed vestibular m

Beyond 'Walk Walk Walk': Barriers and facilitators of physical activity in individuals with claudication.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with claudication have significantly reduced capacity for walking, which leads to worsening prognosis and decline in overall health status. Basic walking advice is usually provided to individuals with claudication during their routine clinic visits, which has very limited efficacy, resulting in little or no change in physical activity behaviour. OBJECTIVE: This study explored barriers and facilitators to physical activity (PA) in individuals with claudication, using the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) and the Socioecological Model (SEM) for behavioural diagnosis. METHODS

Mechanisms of maladaptive eating behavior among individuals with obesity and pain: exploring rumination.

Upwards of 40% of adults in the United States (US) meet criteria for obesity, highlighting obesity as a critical, ongoing public health crisis. Pain affects 33-40% of individuals with obesity, contributing to increased distress and added burden which necessitates a higher degree of coping resources. Individuals with obesity often manage distress through maladaptive eating behaviors, yet it is unclear what mechanisms may contribute to these individual differences in eating behaviors. One mechanism that is relevant to both obesity and pain is rumination, an aspect of repetitive negative thinking

Individual and Sex Differences in Behavior and Cortical Excitability in the Rat Valproate Model of Autism.

The rodent prenatal valproate (VPA) treatment is a widely used animal model of idiopathic autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, the presence of autistic-like symptoms is highly variable in treated offspring. The disruption of the excitation-inhibition balance of certain brain areas has been proposed as a main feature in both human ASD and the VPA model. The current study presents a detailed analysis of neural development, diverse behaviors, and neocortical excitability in a high number of individually identified VPA-treated rat offspring of both sexes. Neocortical excitability was assessed
