Implementation of Glycemic Management Guideline: A Multidisciplinary Quality Improvement Initiative for Patients with Diabetes Receiving Bolus Enteral Feeding.

BACKGROUND: Patients with diabetes receiving bolus enteral feeding are at risk of glycemic variability due to inconsistent timing of capillary blood glucose (CBG) monitoring and insulin administration. Variations in inpatient practices contribute to episodes of hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, increased healthcare costs, and patient discomfort. AIM: To standardize glycemic management practices through implementation of a multidisciplinary guideline aligning CBG monitoring and insulin administration with enteral feeding schedules and evaluate its effectiveness across pilot and scale-up phases. ME

Contextual and individual influences on diabetes and heart disease in Havana primary care catchment areas.

INTRODUCTION: A population health profile is a cumulative product of socioenvironmental and political factors that create the contexts in which health problems arise, as well as opportunities and barriers to addressing them. Research on context has focused on demonstrating its effects, direct or indirect, on health indicators, but has made few incursions into assessing its role as a mediator of other factors. While individual risk factors for chronic diseases are well known, the same cannot be said for the complex of contextual factors operating at various levels and over the lifespan. OBJECT

Implementing a provider-initiated testing and counselling (PITC) intervention in Cape town, South Africa: a process evaluation using the normalisation process model.

BACKGROUND: Provider-initiated HIV testing and counselling (PITC) increases HIV testing rates in most settings, but its effect on testing rates varies considerably. This paper reports the findings of a process evaluation of a controlled trial of PITC for people with sexually transmitted infections (STI) attending publicly funded clinics in a low-resource setting in South Africa, where the trial results were lower than anticipated compared to the standard Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) approach. METHOD: This longitudinal study used a variety of qualitative methods, including participa

Health-Related Quality of Life in Cancer Cachexia: Validation of the Turkish Version of the Functional Assessment of Anorexia/Cachexia Therapy (FAACT).

OBJECTIVES: Generic cancer-related HRQoL instruments may not adequately reflect the multidimensional impact of cancer cachexia, leading to the development of the cachexia-specific Functional Assessment of Anorexia/Cachexia Therapy (FAACT). This study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the existing Turkish version of the FAACT in individuals with cancer cachexia. METHODS: One hundred individuals with cancer cachexia participated. Validity and reliability were assessed using factor analysis, construct validity, known-group comparisons, Cronbach's alpha, test-retest, and intracl

Disparities in COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage Among Health Care Personnel Working in Long-Term Care Facilities, by Job Category, National Healthcare Safety Network - United States, March 2021.

Residents of long-term care facilities (LTCFs) and health care personnel (HCP) working in these facilities are at high risk for COVID-19-associated mortality. As of March 2021, deaths among LTCF residents and HCP have accounted for almost one third (approximately 182,000) of COVID-19-associated deaths in the United States (1). Accordingly, LTCF residents and HCP were prioritized for early receipt of COVID-19 vaccination and were targeted for on-site vaccination through the federal Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program (2). In December 2020, CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (N
