A randomised, prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of glyceryl trinitrate ointment in treatment of anal fissure.

BACKGROUND: Anal fissure is most commonly treated surgically by internal anal sphincterotomy. However, there is some concern over the effects of this procedure on continence. Nitric oxide donors such as glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) have been shown to cause a reversible chemical sphincterotomy capable of healing fissures in a small series of cases. This study reports a prospective, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to test the hypothesis that topical GTN is the best first-line treatment for chronic anal fissure. METHODS: 80 consecutive patients were randomised to receive treatmen

The Impact of Tranexamic Acid Administration Route on Outcomes in Reduction Mammaplasty.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative hematoma requiring unplanned intervention remains a clinically significant complication following reduction mammaplasty. Tranexamic acid (TXA) is increasingly used to reduce its occurrence and perioperative bleeding, but the optimal route of administration in breast reduction surgery remains unclear. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different TXA administration routes on hematoma incidence and perioperative outcomes in patients undergoing reduction mammaplasty. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients who unde

Transformer and generative models in dental and maxillofacial imaging: Narrative review of clinical evidence and future directions.

PURPOSE: This narrative review examined whether primary dental and maxillofacial imaging studies support, qualify, or counter the conclusions of previous systematic reviews of transformer and generative models, with findings assessed by topic rather than by review. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Structured PubMed searches covering 2019-2026 retained 159 records, and supplementary searches addressed topic-specific gaps. Dental and maxillofacial evidence was distinguished from medical transfer evidence. Thirty-six comparisons were then assessed for external validation, patient separation, comparator fa

A Randomized, Double-Blinded Pilot Study Comparing Synthetic Versus Human-Derived Topical Epidermal Growth Factor for Facial Rejuvenation and Psychosocial Perception.

BACKGROUND: Topical growth factor-containing cosmeceuticals are widely used to improve visible signs of facial photoaging. Interest has increased in peptide-based alternatives that aim to support similar regenerative pathways without relying on human-derived biologics. AIM: To compare the clinical efficacy, tolerability, and exploratory psychosocial perception outcomes of a topical recombinant epidermal growth factor (REGF), oligopeptide-1, serum with a human-derived growth factor (operationally labeled HDEGF) serum. METHODS: This was a 12-week, prospective, randomized, double-blinded, paral

Allergic Contact Dermatitis in Pediatric Practice.

BACKGROUND: Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is prevalent among pediatric population, adolescent and young adults. Patients with ACD experience a lot of sociopsychological and qualityof- life (QoL) difficulties. Children and their caregivers alike are vulnerable to the burden of ACD. OBJECTIVES: We have, in this paper, provided an overview of ACD and discussed common and unusual causes of ACD. METHODS: We performed an up-to-date literature review in the English language on "allergic contact dermatitis" via PubMed Clinical Queries, using the keywords "allergic contact dermatitis" in August 2

The Effect of Periocular Fatty Acids and 0.15% Hyaluronate Eye Drops Application on Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca in Dogs: An Exploratory Study.

The aim of this exploratory study was to evaluate the efficacy of a periophthalmic cream of a pool of fatty acids (FAG®) in association with 0.15% hyaluronate eye drops in alleviating the clinical symptoms of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) in a case series of dogs. The study was conducted on 10 dogs diagnosed with idiopathic KCS. All dogs had been previously treated with topical tobramycin alone, which had been ineffective in improving clinical signs. The affected eyes were treated with 2 applications daily of a periophthalmic cream of FAG® and 1 drop 3 times a day of 0.15% of hyaluronate ey

Effects of streptozotocin-induced diabetes on neurogenic inflammation of gingivomucosal tissue in rat.

It has been suggested that the unmyelinated small diameter afferent nociceptive C-fibres are impaired in diabetes mellitus. We have recently demonstrated that these fibres are the prerequisite for neurogenic inflammation induced by mechanical or chemical irritations. These experiments were designed to characterize the neurogenic inflammatory responses of gingivomucosal tissue in the early phase of experimental induced diabetes mellitus in rat. Effect of dental ligature on the gingivomucosal (GM) vascular permeability was studied in control rats and in rats pretreated with streptozotocin at d 7

Topical Pharyngeal Anesthesia in Sedated Pediatric Patients Undergoing Esophagogastroduodenoscopy.

OBJECTIVES: Pediatric patients undergoing esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) commonly receive procedural sedation for comfort and to facilitate the procedure. EGD with procedural sedation carries the risk of several airway incidents and/or adverse events (AIAE). Topical pharyngeal anesthetics (TPAs) can blunt the airway reflexes and decrease the incidence of laryngospasm but has not been well studied with EGD under procedural sedation. We aimed to study the effect of adding a TPA to propofol-based sedation on the rate of AIAE. METHODS: This is a single-center, retrospective, observational cohor

Role of Dietary Supplements in Thyroid Diseases.

BACKGROUND: Thyroid hormones play a vital role in regulating our body's metabolism. Two important thyroid hormones released from the thyroid gland are tri-iodothyronine (T3) and tetra-iodothyronine (T4). Thyroid-stimulating hormone and thyroid regulating hormone control the T3 and T4 levels in our body. Increased TSH levels indicate hypothyroidism and decreased TSH levels indicate hyperthyroidism. Iodine is a crucial nutrient for the synthesis of thyroid hormones and is mostly obtained from our diet. Other essential nutrients for the thyroid hormones formation include selenium, iron, vitamin D

Novel combined topical gel of lidocaine-verapamil-nitroglycerin can dilate the radial artery and reduce radial pain during trans-radial angioplasty.

INTRODUCTION: Radial approach for coronary angioplasty is accepted by many specialists in medical centers around the world. The use of radial access is associated with fewer vascular complications and the same success rate in comparison with traditional femoral access. Radial artery spasm is one of the main concerns in this method. The small size of the radial artery and high density of alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in this artery can accelerate the spasm. The objects of this study were to evaluate whether the combined topical gel of lidocaine-verapamil-nitroglycerin could dilate the radial art
