Ultra-lightweight robotic hip exoskeleton with anti-phase torque symmetry for enhanced walking efficiency.

This paper presents a novel robotic exoskeleton that is exceptionally lightweight and compact, while providing effective gait assistance. To maximize the system's assistance-to-weight/size ratio, the design focuses on two key aspects of human gait mechanics: (1) the contribution of the hip joints to power generation, and (2) the symmetrical nature of hip flexion and extension torques during walking. Based on these principles, we developed a compact hip exoskeleton with a single actuator. This actuator simultaneously drives the hip joint in the sagittal plane, facilitating both flexion and exte

Validation of a tele-robotic ultrasound system for abdomen and thyroid gland explorations: a comparison with standard ultrasound.

BACKGROUND: Tele-robotic ultrasound (US) is a novel technique that might help overcome the current shortage of radiologists and poor access to radiologists and/or sonographers in remote or rural areas. Despite the promising results of this technology in the past two decades, there is still insufficient data about its advantages and limits, as well as the implementation in routine clinical practice and the learning curve for the user. The purpose of this prospective cohort-based study is to evaluate the performance of a 5G-based tele-robotic US system for abdominal and thyroid gland assessment

Clinical trials of GPE-based muscle support algorithm for robotic hip exoskeleton: a pilot study.

With the advent of an aging society, the lack of physical activity has become a major concern, leading to various age-related diseases. To prevent such issues, research on wearable robots aimed at improving gait has been actively pursued. Among them, exoskeleton robots, a widely used approach, require an accurate understanding of the user's gait cycle for effective control. Various studies have explored gait cycle detection and prediction methods depending on the type of gait robot platform and the use of sensors. However, a major challenge in gait cycle prediction algorithms remains the issue

Exhalation-synchronous robotic abdominal compression for user-centered respiratory assistance and training in neurological patients.

BACKGROUND: Patients with respiratory weaknesses due to neurological disorders or aging often face usability challenges with conventional mechanical ventilators, which directly move air in and out of the lungs via the ventilation mask. To address these challenges, Exo-Abs was developed to support a wide range of respiratory functions through synchronous abdominal compression. Its control previously relied on continuous full-phase measurements from multiple sensors to ensure control performance across a wide dynamic range. However, accommodating long-term usage scenarios remained challenging, a

Feasibility and setting of single docking HUGO RAS robot-assisted nephroureterectomy: first European experience.

Robot-assisted nephroureterectomy (RANU) has demonstrated equal oncological outcomes and better perioperative outcomes compared to open and laparoscopic procedures for treating upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). However, RANU is still limited by technical difficulties like patient positioning, port placement, transitioning between anatomical regions and cost-effectiveness issues. The new surgical robot HUGO RAS increasing competition may spread the robotic approach also for this procedure. We aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of single docking RANU using HUGO RAS platform along with t

Brain Biomarkers for Assessing Practice of Robotic Arm Reaching Movements Using a Head-Controlled Interface.

Limited efforts have examined the cognitive-motor processes as individuals learn to operate upper-limb assistive devices that improve interactions in their environment (e.g., prostheses, head-controlled devices). Prior work mainly focused on performance without examining cerebral cortical dynamics via brain biomarkers to assess the level of practice during the learning of such assistive devices. Specifically, it was suggested that EEG biomarkers like low- and high-beta spectral power are related to learning as they assess memory formation and attentional mechanisms. Therefore, this work examin

A simple plan strategy to optimize the biological effective dose delivered in robotic radiosurgery of vestibular schwannomas.

Using the concept of biologically effective dose (BED), the effect of sublethal DNA damage repair (SLR) on the bio-efficacy of prolonged radiotherapy treatments can be quantified (BEDSLR). Such treatments, lasting more than 20 min, are typically encountered in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) applications using the CyberKnife (CK) and Gamma knife systems. Evaluating the plan data from 45 Vestibular Schwannoma (VS) cases treated with single fraction CK-SRS, this work demonstrates a statistically significant correlation between the marginal BEDSLRdelivered to the target (m-BEDSLR) and the ratio o
