PTSD symptoms decreased between 3 and 6 months (Cohen's d ranged .34-.52). Regression analyses also revealed a specific positive relations…

The role of family carers in the use of personal budgets by people with mental health problems.

Personal budgets aim to increase choice and independence for people with social care needs but they remain underused by people with mental health problems compared to other disability groups. The use of personal budgets may impact on families in a variety of ways, both positive and negative. This paper draws on interviews, undertaken in 2012-2013 with 18 family carers and 12 mental health service users, that explored experiences of family involvement in accessing and managing personal budgets for a person with mental health-related social care needs. The sample was drawn from three sites acros

Social prescribing for anxiety and depression in older adults: mechanistic pathways, implementation requirements, and limitations of current evidence.

Population ageing and the rising burden of multimorbidity require late-life anxiety and depression to be addressed beyond symptom control. Loneliness, social isolation, restricted activity, and loss of meaningful roles frequently interact with physical illness and functional decline; however, these determinants are not readily modified through conventional clinical care alone. Social prescribing offers a range of supported pathways through which health and care professionals connect individuals with non-clinical community resources, ranging from light-touch referrals to more holistic, relation

Identifying Unmet Social Needs in a Patient Living in Isolation: A Case Report.

Loneliness and social isolation are common among older adults. To deliver high-quality care to older patients, healthcare professionals should know the social conditions of their patients. Addressing social determinants of health (SDH) in daily practice is beneficial to both patients and healthcare professionals. We illustrate a patient with congestive heart failure and cognitive decline whose social conditions improved through an SDH assessment. An SDH assessment has some potential advantages, which include facilitating a comprehensive understanding of patients' social conditions, visualizing
