Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is the most common hereditary peripheral neuropathy. Mutations in the neurofilament light polypeptide (NEFL) gene produce diverse clinical phenotypes, including demyelinating (CMT1F), axonal (CMT2E), and intermediate (CMTDIG) neuropathies.
