BACKGROUND: There is limited understanding of the impact of glucose monitoring technologies on relationships with food and eating behaviours for those with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
AIMS: With previous reviews focused on T2DM treatment burden and self-management, this review aims to enhance understanding of the impact of flash or continuous glucose monitoring (FGM/CGM) on users' eating behaviours and relationships with food as this can inform important recommendations for CGM use amongst those with T2DM.
METHOD: A systematic search was conducted across four databases: Scopus, Medline,

BACKGROUND: Daydreaming can be monitored either to avoid it while doing hands-on tasks or to enhance it to foster creativity. Although significant research has been conducted in Brain recordings and Machine learning, some problems have not received sufficient attention. One of them is the automated identification and classification of daydream states with emphasis on physiological signals and prandial states. Until now, researchers have been relying only on subjective questionnaire-based methods of daydream identification, neglecting neural hemodynamics.

PURPOSE: This scoping review aims to: (1) describe the existing evidence and, based on that, examine study designs, intervention strategies, participant characteristics (e.g., age, sex), and exercise protocols (e.g., modality, intensity, duration); (2) Identify knowledge gaps related to the effects of exercise timing, and provide recommendations for future research directions. RESULTS: Fragmented evidence of time-of-day effects was identified across acute studies, particularly for subjective appetite ratings, food preference, energy intake, and relative energy intake. In chronic studies, isola

BACKGROUND: Up to 92% of individuals with eating disorders (EDs) report engaging in body checking behaviors (eg, repeated self-weighing and pinching of various body parts) to assess their weight and shape. These behaviors contribute to increased body dissatisfaction, negative affect, and dietary restriction, thereby maintaining ED symptomology.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to first characterize the types and frequency of body checking behaviors (eg, self-weighing, pinching) reported among adolescent girls with binge-spectrum EDs during a 21-day ecological momentary assessment (EMA) protocol. Th

Following the global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, wars and conflicts have escalated to levels unseen since the Cold War. It is well known that conflict is accompanied not only by significant losses among both military personnel and civilians but also by rising levels of stress and stress-related disorders within the general population. Stress is bidirectionally connected with the state of the gut microbiota through the gut-brain axis. Dietary factors and eating behaviours also play crucial roles in shaping gut microbiota composition. On the one hand, conflict negatively affects food av

PURPOSE: Clinical studies describe a higher risk in individuals with Gender Dysphoria (GD) to engage in disordered eating practices, as well as dietary restraint. To the present day, clinical assessments on eating psychopathology in GD are principally oriented towards assessing behaviors, rather than the lived experience underlying these behaviors.
METHODS: A sample of 141 individuals with GD (40 assigned male at birth-AMAB, 101 assigned female-AFAB), 153 individuals from the general population and 294 patients with AN were enrolled. Body Uneasiness Test (BUT), the Eating Disorders Examinatio

Oligo-amenorrhea is common in low-weight eating disorders (LWEDs) and reflects cumulative suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, leading to chronic or cumulative hypoestrogenism. Estrogen modulates mesolimbic dopaminergic signaling involved in reward behavior. Investigating amenorrhea-reward mechanisms in LWEDs is clinically relevant, as reduced reward responsiveness and associated altered decision-making may sustain disordered eating. We examined whether lifetime duration of amenorrhea is associated with reward-based decision-making and hedonic eating in females with LWEDs. W

In Japan, a version of the Japanese Food Guide, specifically developed for pregnancy and lactation (JFGST-P/L), promotes healthy dietary habits. In the mid- to-late stages of pregnancy, it is especially important to consume the recommended additional calories and nutrients. Adherence to these guidelines also plays a key role in achieving appropriate gestational weight gain (GWG). This study investigated the relationship between adherence to these guidelines and GWG among women in the mid- to late stages of pregnancy. Data were obtained from the Maternal and Child Cohort Study, conducted at the

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with multifactorial pathogenesis, in which dietary factors may play a role. This cross-sectional study evaluated dietary patterns in 71 HS patients in a Western population using the validated Rapid Prime Diet Quality Screener (rPDQS) and compared the results with those of a healthy historical US validation cohort representative of the Western diet. The HS cohort had significantly lower mean rPDQS scores than reference group (11 ± 4 vs. 12 ± 4, p = 0.005) and higher rates of overweight/obesity (81% vs. 59%). Processed meat con

The vital role of early dietary intake in shaping later health has been widely acknowledged, but how changes in dietary intake from early life influence health outcomes remains unclear. This review systematically synthesized the literature that examined the longitudinal associations between changes in dietary intake (i.e., trajectories) from early life and health outcomes. Electronic searches were conducted in PubMed, Embase, and ScienceDirect to gather longitudinal cohort studies that investigated dietary intake trajectories from infancy, childhood, or adolescence (with first dietary assessme

In recent decades, non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) has gained attention as a potential tool for promoting dietary regulation by modulating activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC). However, the findings from individual experimental studies and meta-analyses have been inconsistent. To address this, we conducted a meta-analytic and systematic review of past studies focusing on neuromodulation of the dlPFC. Our research included 13 studies using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS; 16 samples, 506 participants) and 29 transcranial direct current stimulation (tDC

STUDY OBJECTIVES: As a day-active species, humans abstain from some or all foods and beverages and rest at night. The modern social clock diverged from the natural light-dark clock with far-stretching consequences for both fasting/eating and sleep/wake daily cycles.
METHODS: During the COVID-19 pandemic, prolonged social restrictions (SRs) offered a quasi-experimental protocol to directly test the impact of the relaxed social clock on eating and sleep behaviors and the coupling between them.
RESULTS: Using data from a global survey of 5747 adults (mean age 37.2 ± 13.7, 67.1% females, 100% wo

OBJECTIVE: Disinhibited restrained eaters are particularly susceptible to dietary lapses and are at increased risk for the onset of eating disorders. To elucidate the neural mechanisms underlying this vulnerability, the present study examined interactions between the reward and inhibition systems during food cue exposure.
METHOD: Sixty female restrained eaters (aged 17-26 years) completed a task-based fMRI paradigm involving food and neutral cues under satiety. Participants were grouped by disinhibition level based on the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire. Psychophysiological interaction (P

BACKGROUND: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are complex conditions influenced by multiple factors, including dietary habits. This study aimed to explore the potential causal relationships between dietary patterns and TMD risk using bidirectional Mendelian randomisation (MR).
METHODS: A bidirectional two-sample MR analysis was performed to assess the causal effects of 83 dietary habits on TMD risk, and vice versa. Five MR methods, including inverse variance weighting (IVW), were applied. Associations with p-values < 0.05 were considered suggestive of causality.
RESULTS: Ten dietary habits w

Perseverative cognition (e.g., worry, rumination) is cross-sectionally associated with disordered eating behaviors and negative affect; yet little research has examined its causal role in emotional eating (EE). The current preregistered experimental study tested the influence of one type of perseverative cognition-worry-on objectively measured food consumption in the laboratory. A total of 129 undergraduate students (67.4 % cisgender women, AgeM = 19.87) were screened via a semi-structured diagnostic interview and randomly assigned to either a worry induction or control condition. BACKGROUND: Metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), caused by insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome, may result in progressive liver fibrosis. Animal studies suggest that dietary content modulates liver fibrosis progression. Our aim was to identify dietary components and food-related behaviors that may be associated with fibrosis progression and liver-related outcomes in a well-characterized human MASLD cohort.
METHODS: Patients with MASLD who had completed a detailed Lifestyle Survey, including a semiquantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire in the Veterans Health Admin

Background/Objectives: Diet quality is important for the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which are now responsible for leading causes of death worldwide. Although health professionals often recommend diet improvement for the treatment and management of many NCDs, patients continually struggle to make dietary changes and maintain them long-term. This may be due to an interplay of many factors that affect dietary quality. This paper discusses some lifestyle-related factors that may offer additional points of intervention for health professionals to use to increase diet quality. M
