The authors analyze the problem of resection of the oesophagus without thoracotomy by means of videothoracoscopy and transhiatal technique of oesophagectomy in patients suffering from carcinoma of the middle third of the oesophagus. The authors describe a case with epidermoid carcinoma of the oesophagus which was resected and the oesophagus was replaced by the large intestine. Recently, with increase of number of esophagectomy for esophageal cancer, the cases having the lesion in the organs for esophageal substitute have been increasing. A case of true hermaphrodite with left unilated ovotestis was reported in a 37-year-old Thai male. Bilateral gynaecomastia, under and maldevelopment of external genitalia were present with infertility. Chromosome study was not available. Pathological examination of resected specimens showed evidence of ovarian and testicular tissue. Stratified squamous epithelium with an area of squamous cell carcinoma was noticed. Diagnosis of ovotestis with carcinoma of the cervix was suggested.

A literature review dealing with epidemiological and etiologic aspects of squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva is presented. It is a rare disease; the incidence is 1-2 per 100,000 women per year. Among women more than 75 years of age, the incidence is at least ten times higher. The cause of vulvar carcinoma is not known. The authors present a case of a 54-year-old male patient suffering from a laryngocele with concomitant laryngeal cancer. The patient had a three-month history of hoarseness. The clinical examination as well as the endoscopic evaluation did not reveal any signs of malignancy inside the larynx.
