Usability assessment for cave automatic virtual environment-based immersive education system on novice nurses and nursing students: A mixed methods study.

BACKGROUND: Nurses are the primary implementers of enteral nutrition therapy and need to be trained in relevant skills, especially in the care of critically ill patients with neurological damage. Traditional educational methods fail to present the complex changes in the condition of critically ill patients and therefore do not meet current educational and practice requirements. The effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) in nursing education has been demonstrated. However, there is a paucity of evidence for using cave automatic virtual environment (CAVE), a novel VR technology, in nursing educat

Urinary catheterisation management after laparoscopic hysterectomy: a national overview and a nurse preference survey.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the catheterisation regimes after a laparoscopic hysterectomy (LH) in Dutch hospitals and to assess the nurses' opinion on this topic. This was particularly relevant as no consensus exists on the best moment to remove a urinary catheter after an LH. All 89 Dutch hospitals were successfully contacted and provided information on their catheterisation regime after LH: 69 (77.5%) hospitals reported removing the catheter the next morning after the LH, while nine hospitals (10.1%) removed it directly at the end of the procedure. The other 11 hospitals had differ

Stakeholder perceptions of a nurse led walk-in centre.

BACKGROUND: As many countries face primary care medical workforce shortages and find it difficult to provide timely and affordable care they seek to find new ways of delivering first point of contact health care through developing new service models. In common with other areas of rural and regional Australia, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is currently experiencing a general practitioner (GP) workforce shortage which impacts significantly on the ability of patients to access GP led primary care services. The introduction of a nurse led primary care Walk-in Centre in the ACT aimed to fu

Investigation of the second wave (phase 2) of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Toronto, Canada. What happened?

BACKGROUND: Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) was introduced to Toronto on 23 February, 2003. The outbreak was believed to be over in early May after two incubation periods had passed with no newly identified cases. However, on 20 May, 2003 a cluster of respiratory illnesses occurred in a rehabilitation facility in Toronto. These cases were later identified as SARS but not until a community hospital in which one of these cases was previously hospitalized (Hospital X) had already experienced nosocomial transmission. This report describes the outbreak investigation of nosocomial transmiss

Mental health literacy among family nurses in Poland: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: More than a billion people worldwide suffer from mental health disorders, and primary health care (PHC) is critical for early recognition and treatment of these medical conditions. Family nurses (FNs), as the patient's first point of contact with the healthcare system, are considered to play an important role in identifying mental health disorders. Mental health literacy (MHL) refers to the knowledge and beliefs that help with the recognition, treatment and prevention of mental disorders; yet, little is known about the level of MHL among family nurses in Poland. The aim of this stu
