Necrotising Otitis Externa (NOE) has often posed some challenges in view of diagnosis and management by clinicians. One such challenge is the appropriate and timely use of imaging techniques, since its use is critical not only in diagnosis but also determining the extent and resolution of the disease. Hence, doctors in both primary and secondary health care need to be familiar with presenting symptoms, while specialists need to be appraised of advances in imagining techniques in management of NOE. Whilst there is a general consensus amongst clinicians on some aspects of management of NOE, ther

Familial cases of benign fibro-osseous lesions of the jaws are rare and have been described under numerous terms including familial gigantiform cementoma, multiple cemento-ossifying fibromas, sclerotic cemental masses and familial florid cemento-osseous dysplasia. The synonymous and interchangeable use of these terms to describe distinct entities with overlapping features has resulted in confusion and inaccurate categorisation of these lesions. This study highlights three family members with diffuse fibro-osseous jaw lesions with areas of significant expansion. In the pursuit of finding the be

Infections of the bones and joints caused by gram-negative bacteria from the family Enterobacteriaceae account for 10%-15%. This family usually cause opportunistic infections, due to a low virulence factor, host and environmental factors. Gram-negative bacteria cause osteomyelitis, infectious arthritis and Reiter's syndrome. The family Enterobacteriaceae belong to the physiological flora of man and cause opportunistic and hospital infections. In order to reach an accurate etiologic diagnosis, it is therefore important for the samples for bacteriologic examination to be properly taken. The qual…

Diabetes is a growing public health concern, with diabetic foot infections (DFI) being one of the leading causes of lower extremity limb amputation in the United States. Accurate diagnosis of DFI requires a combination of clinical, laboratory, and radiologic tests to determine the extent and depth of infection, including the presence of osteomyelitis. Treatment often includes a combination of antibiotics and surgical debridement. Addressing comorbidities such as peripheral vascular disease, glycemic control, and offloading pressure from ulcers and bony prominences is paramount to achieving a s…

Osteomyelitis remains a global challenge in the field of orthopedics. Even after standard debridement and antibiotic-assisted treatment, the long-term recurrence rate remains at 20%-30%. Given the dynamic changes in immune responses and defense mechanisms during bone infection, as well as the complex "race for the surface" involving bacterial adhesion and host cells (macrophages and tissue cells) on implant surfaces, biomaterials with immunomodulatory functions have attracted considerable attention. Macrophages, as crucial components of the immune system, participate in the inflammatory regula…

CASE: We report a case of a 3-year-old girl who developed a post-infectious femoral neck pseudoarthrosis after a proximal hematogenous femoral osteomyelitis (type 3 according to Hunka classification of the sequelae of the septic hip in children). The patient was treated by a modified "SUPERhip 2" procedure (a reconstructive procedure described to reconstruct congenital femoral neck pseudoarthrosis). This report describes the surgical technique in details and discusses the advantages, pitfalls, and complications and possible complications.
CONCLUSION: Our modification simplifies the "SUPERhip …

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to identify treatment indications for symptomatic and asymptomatic florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) in adult patients and explore relationships between clinical variables and radiographic findings (PROSPERO # CRD42023411228).
STUDY DESIGN: A systematic review was conducted by independent investigators using databases: PubMed, ProQuest, Embase, Web of Science, Dentistry and Oral Sciences Database (DOSS), and TRIP to identify studies on FCOD treatment options in adults. Inclusion criteria for this systematic review included: originally in Engli

BACKGROUND: Brodie's abscess is a form of chronic pyogenic osteomyelitis that usually affects the cancellous part of the long bones in children. Its treatment is represented by antibiotic therapy alone or in association with surgical procedures.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 12-years-old male affected by a Brodie's abscess of the tibia involving the distal growth plate was admitted to the Pediatric Department for a conservative treatment. After several attempts of antibiotic therapy interrupted for intolerance manifestations he was surgically treated with bioactive glass BAG-S53P4 (BonAlive, BonAlive …

Bone lengthening technique is one of the core surgical technique for skeletal lengthening and reconstruction. It is widely used in the treatment of nonunion, segmental bone defect, bone infection, congenital or post-traumatic limb length differences, and hand-foot deformity correction. Until today, the surgical techniques and devices of bone lengthening are improving over time, and it is to improve the quality of treatment and reduce complications. However, the bone lengthening technique is different from the treatment for other orthopedic diseases, and it has the following feature, including
