This study was undertaken to determine whether preshunt, postshunt, or changes in portal vein (PV) pressures or portal vein-to-inferior vena cava (PV-IVC) pressure gradients determine outcome following partial portal decompression attained through small-diameter prosthetic H-graft portacaval shunt (HGPCS). The purpose of this study was to determine in man the effect on the breathing pattern of continuous positive (CPAP), continuous negative (CNAP) and positive end-expiratory (PEEP) airway pressure during air breathing and CO2 inhalation. Study of rat models of renovascular hypertension has been limited by the difficulty in measuring the post-stenotic pressures in conscious animals. We studied a model using inter-renal aortic coarctation (0.33 mm clip) in which post-stenotic (iliac) and systemic (carotid) pressures could be measured chronically. Pressure on the spinal cord with the neck in the extended position for endotracheal intubation was recorded in eight patients with a narrow spinal canal due to cervical spondylosis. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the exercise-induced changes in blood pressure (BP) and pulse rate using a wearable oscillometric BP monitor and their associations with cardiac structure and function.
METHODS: The study included 137 participants (mixed hypertensive and normotensive) who underwent standardized symptom-limited cycle ergometer testing.
