Enhancing chronic neck pain management: integrating SFBC and digital mental health screening.

Chronic nonspecific neck pain (CNSNP) and degenerative cervical spondylosis (DCS) are common musculoskeletal disorders that significantly impact quality of life. Current management strategies focus primarily on physical therapies, such as muscle strengthening and postural correction. However, these treatments often overlook the psychological factors that influence pain perception and management. This manuscript proposes an integrated approach combining Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) and digital mental health screening tools (such as PHQ-9 and GAD-7) with standard physical treatments

The agitated older adult in the emergency department: a narrative review of common causes and management strategies.

Agitation and aggression are common in older emergency department (ED) patients, can impede the expedient diagnosis of potentially life-threatening conditions, and can adversely impact ED functioning and efficiency. Agitation and aggression in older adults may be due to multiple causes, but chief among them are primary psychiatric disorders, substance use, hyperactive delirium, and symptoms of dementia. Understanding the etiology of agitation in an older adult is critical to proper management. Effective non-pharmacologic modalities are available for the management of mild to moderate agitation

How is lymphofluoroscopy mapping altering lymphoedema management?

Lymphoedema management has evolved over many decades, but the core components of treatment remain largely unaltered, such as skin care, compression and self-lymphatic drainage. Near-infrared fluorescence lymphatic imaging (NIRFLI) offers an opportunity to enhance patient outcomes by evaluating and increasing the effectiveness of these treatment options. This is relevant when we consider the impact of this chronic condition and its endemic proportions ( Mortimer, 2014 ), while Moffatt et al (2017) suggests it is one of the biggest health risks in the Western world, due to the multiple causes, s

Internal experience of an aging self: A grounded theory study on women's aging awareness beyond midlife.

PURPOSE: Awareness of one's own aging is a critical psychological process that shapes adaptation and well-being in later life. For women, age awareness is influenced by gendered experiences such as bodily changes, menopause, and shifting social roles. This study aimed to develop a grounded theory explaining how women aged 50-75 construct and adapt their awareness of aging through everyday life contexts. METHODS: This study was guided by constructivist grounded theory, informed by symbolic interactionism and social constructionism. Nineteen in-depth interviews were conducted between 2021 and 2

Metacognitive Interpersonal Therapy - Eating Disorders (MIT-ED) in the Case of an 18-Year-Old Girl With Avoidant and Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorders, Binge Eating Disorder and Obesity.

Personality disorders (PD) in adolescents are a significant risk factor in the development and maintenance of eating disorders (ED). Comorbid PD and ED can influence each other and significantly impact on the young person's well-being, worsening interpersonal relationships and social functioning. Patients with ED often use coping mechanisms related to food and body shape as maladaptive attempts to manage PD-related problems, like negative ideas about self and others. We describe the case of an 18-year-old adolescent presenting with binge eating disorder (BED), stage I obesity, and Avoidant and

Knowledge assessment among subjects with chronic venous leg ulcer in outpatient setting: Translation and adaptation of a tool to identify subjects at risk of poor understanding.

Promotion of self-care is an important issue in the treatment of chronic diseases such as venous leg ulcers, as adequate self-care can prevent complications and ulcer recurrence. However, only a few tools have been developed and tested to assess the knowledge of patients with venous leg ulcers. This study aimed to translate, adapt and validate in an Italian language and context a questionnaire to assess the knowledge of patients with venous leg ulcers about their disease (pathophysiology, risk factors, lifestyle changes due to ulcer) and the proper management of the ulcer to prevent recurrence
