BACKGROUND: Extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs) significantly affect the life quality of people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and are crucial factors impacting occurrence rates and mortality among IBD patients. This study performed a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the causal relationships between genetically predicted IBD and the development of EIMs, including erythema nodosum (EN), episcleritis, scleritis, uveitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and spondyloarthritis. To further investigate differences between subtypes, separate analyses were conducted f…

Ocular involvement related to West Nile Virus infection is receiving increasing attention in Europe as the virus expands northward due to climate change. Next to the well-known neurological complications, the virus can also affect the eye, often in cases of severe neuroinvasive disease, and lead to retinal changes. The most common ocular manifestation is multifocal chorioretinitis with nummular lesions distributed in a distinctive linear pattern. Uveitis, optic neuritis, retinal vasculitis, and in some cases permanent vision loss are reported as well. Here, we present a case of West Nile Virus…

Diagnostic biomarker for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and its overlapping diseases, which include COVID-19, monkey pox, AIDS and uveitis, is of interest. The gene-disease association network was built by using human microarray datasets from the GEO database. The comparison based on Jaccard's similarity index showed 27 intersected differentially expressed genes (DEGs), with AIDS having the highest genomic association with EVD. Gene-disease interaction analysis revealed Metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript-1 (MALAT1) and histone cluster 1, H2bc (HIST1H2BC) as the most relevant diagn…

Posner-Schlossman syndrome, or glaucomatocyclitic crisis, is a unilateral ocular condition characterized by recurrent attacks of nongranulomatous anterior uveitis and raised intraocular pressure that can result in chronic secondary glaucoma. This relatively rare disease is most likely the result of recurrent cytomegalovirus infection and affects predominantly middle-aged males. Diagnosis is largely clinical, with aqueous and blood sampling aiding the identification of any underlying infectious cause. Successful disease management is often achieved by topical treatment, although systemic therap…

Dengue fever is caused by a flavivirus. This infection is endemic in the tropics and warm temperate regions of the world. Ocular manifestations of dengue fever include subconjunctival, vitreous, and retinal haemorrhages; posterior uveitis; optic neuritis; and maculopathies, haemorrhage, and oedema. However anterior ischemic optic neuropathy is a rare presentation. Optic nerve ischemia most frequently occurs at the optic nerve head, where structural crowding of nerve fibers and reduction of the vascular supply may combine to impair perfusion to a critical degree and produce optic disc oedema. H…

Feline viral diseases are common and cats can be presented with a variety of clinical manifestations. Ocular disease associated with viral pathogens is not unusual, particularly with viruses causing upper respiratory tract disease in cats, such as feline herpesvirus type 1 and feline calicivirus. These agents mainly cause ocular surface disease. Other viruses, such as feline immunodeficiency virus and feline coronavirus, can cause uveitis, while feline leukemia virus can induce ocular lymphosarcoma. This review covers the most common viral pathogens of cats that cause ocular manifestations, th…

We report a case of a 53-year-old man with Behcet's disease (BD) and paradoxical stroke. This patient suddenly developed sensory aphasia, right oculomotor palsy, nystagmus, and left ataxic hemiparesis. MR images showed fresh embolic infarcts in the midbrain and the left parietotemporal lobe. He presented with uveitis, oral aphthous ulcers and genital ulcers. An electrocardiogram revealed no abnormalities, and a transesophageal echocardiogram disclosed a patent foramen ovale. Since venous involvement is common in BD, we suspected the presence of smaller thrombi probable in this patient. We conc…
