Disorders of the sense of taste were studied in 355 patients with craniocerebral pathology, among whom 70 had tumors of the acoustic nerve, 64 had a craniocerebral trauma, 60 had tumors of the cerebral hemispheres. In a patient with long-standing plaque-stage mycosis fungoides, eye pain, a visual field defect, decreased acuity, and a swollen optic disc developed. A lymphomatous infiltrate consistent with mycosis fungoides was found in the brain at craniotomy and in the optic nerves at autopsy. Ten months elapsed between the presenting symptoms and death and during this period the patient's symptoms were controlled with prednisone therapy. The optic nerves as well as the brain can be involved with mycosis fungoides.

Regional brain blood flow was determined in 23 awake, unparalyzed gerbils with a simplified indicator-fractionation technique. Retrospective analysis of 25 pyogenic brain abcesses diagnosed by computed tomography (CT) revealed relatively specific morphologic characteristics of these infections. The ability to obtain an early accurate diagnosis resulted in a dramatic decrease in patient morbidity and mortality. Repeated examinations by CT permitted close monitoring of the response of the abscess to antibiotic therapy. In some instances the need for surgical intervention was eliminated or the surgical approach was modified as a result of these studies.

Radioactive synthetic alpha-MSH, prepared by selective tritiation of its dibromo-L-tyrosine-derivative, was injected into the carotid artery of intact, hypophysectomized or pinealectomized rats.
