The effect of histamine on in vitro T cell blastogenic responses of canine peripheral blood lymphocytes to phytohemagglutinin-P (PHA-P) was investigated. Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), chronic idiopathic demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), and multiple sclerosis (MS) are disorders with presumed immunopathogenesis. We studied growth and differentiation of B lymphocytes of patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) using B cell enriched populations. Antigen- or mitogen-stimulated CD4+/CD- lymphocytes produced factors able to induce normal human platelets into cytotoxic effectors toward the young larvae of Schistosoma mansoni. The neutralization by monoclonal anti-IFN-gamma antibody of the induction of the platelet killer effect, the presence of IFN-gamma in the CD4+/CD8- lymphocyte supernatant, and, finally, the direct inducer effect of recombinant IFN-gamma clearly demonstrated that IFN-gamma was one of the factors responsible for the induction of platelet cytotoxic functions.

Cytogenetic analyses were performed on cells from 17 patients with hairy cell leukemia stimulated with polyclonal B-cell activators (in 155 different cultures). No mitosis was obtained in samples from four cases (23.5%). Of 14 bone marrows, four (28.6%) showed mitoses, two with clonal abnormalities. T-cell lines specific for infective muscle larvae antigens of the intestinal nematode Trichinella spiralis have been generated in vitro. These antigen-specific T-cell lines express the L3T4+ Ly2- phenotype and secrete the lymphokines IL-2, IL-3 and gamma-IFN. This report concerns a baby with the features of Di George syndrome. Bovine thymic extracts prepared in this laboratory were used to treat the baby between the ages of 1 and 18 months.
