A case report is presented of a 9-year-old boy with xeroderma pigmentosum complementation group C, who died from a squamous cell carcinoma arising from the tip of the tongue. Treatment with etretinate and in a later phase with indomethacin and prednisolone was not effective, except for a limited initial response of the tumour to etretinate.

Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) is a serious toxicity associated with a small number of antineoplastic agents. A case report of a patient with probable cisplatin and bleomycin-induced TMA is presented. The basic triad of symptoms that occurs in the TMA syndrome include microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and renal impairment. Clinicopathologic features of 12 tumors of the lower uterine segment (isthmus) were studied and the findings compared with data on 196 tumors of the corpus endometrium proper. The mean age of these Japanese patients with tumors of the isthmus was 47 years and that of the patients with tumors of the corpus endometrium was 55 years. Chronic graft-vs-host disease (GvHD) is a common, severe complication of bone marrow transplantation that often results in sclerodermoid skin changes with chronic and recurrent skin ulceration. We describe a case of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma presenting as an ulcer on the sole of a 20-year-old woman with chronic GvHD. Although such an association has not been previously described, we discuss why features of chronic GvHD could be expected to place affected patients at increased risk for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.

A patient with cervical cancer had renal failure secondary to bilateral ureteric obstruction. Percutaneous nephrostomy was performed, allowing restoration of renal function while radiotherapy was administered. This technique offers a temporary means of bypassing obstructed ureters and is associated with low morbidity and minimal surgical risk.

A 79-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for radiation therapy for lung cancer on July 24, 1984. In the course of radiation therapy, many bullas were recognized on his trunk. The lesion was diagnosed as bullous pemphigoid. To date, about 27 cases of malignant tumor with bullous pemphigoid have been reported in Japan. At present, the causal relation between malignant tumor and bullous pemphigoid has not been establishes. In our case, the bullous lesions disappeared during the course of radiation therapy, and the patient has been in good general condition for nine months without recurrence

The present paper communicates an observation of a squamous cell carcinoma of the corpus uteri at the base of an ichthyosis uteri. The ichthyosis uteri developed over a period of just three years from a discrete squamous cell metaplasia of the endometrial body in the presence of slight nonspecific endometritis. It is recommended that when ichthyosis uteri is detected the uterus should be removed, since the changes cannot be eliminated by curettage and there is a risk of malignant degeneration within a relatively short time.

Carcinoma of the trachea is rare in comparison to other neoplasms of the respiratory tract. Cigarette smoking has been implicated in its aetiology, but unlike carcinoma of the bronchus and lung, the incidence of tracheal carcinoma has not risen with tobacco consumption (Hajdu et al., 1970; Ranke et al., 1962). It seems, then, that there is some mechanism or mechanisms which render the trachea especially resistant to malignant change.

Preoperative hysteroscopic and histologic findings of endocervical cancerous lesions were compared with postoperative histologic findings of cervices. A total of 132 patients consisting of 72 carcinoma in situ, 16 microinvasive carcinoma and 44 invasive squamous cell carcinoma were examined during the 5 years beginning in 1977. The rates of cancerous lesions observed in the endocervix were 33.3% carcinoma in situ, 56.2% microinvasive carcinoma and 72.8% invasive squamous cell carcinoma. The preoperative diagnoses of endocervical lesions were histologically identical with the postoperative ones
