The effect of exercise interventions on mental health in children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Mental health issues such as anxiety and depression are common comorbidities in individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, exacerbating functional impairments. Exercise interventions show promise as a non-pharmacological approach, but their specific efficacy on mental health in the ADHD population remains controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of exercise interventions on mental health in children and adolescents with ADHD and to explore potential moderating factors. METHODS: This meta-analysis adhered to the PRISMA guidelines and was registered wit

Systems-level investigation of the anxiolytic gut-brain interactions induced by paraprobiotic Lactobacillus brevis SBC8803 in zebrafish.

INTRODUCTION: Anxiety disorders are among the most prevalent mental health conditions worldwide, and interest in psychobiotics-live or inactivated microorganisms that beneficially modulate the microbiota-gut-brain axis-is increasing. Heat killed Lactobacillus brevis SBC8803 enhances serotonin (5 hydroxytryptamine; 5 HT) signaling and ameliorates stress-related phenotypes in mammals, although the gut-brain pathways mediating these effects remain incompletely defined. Here, we investigated the anxiolytic effects and underlying molecular mechanisms of oral SBC8803 administration in adult zebrafis

A randomized controlled study on the effects of the T-REX Twente (Thoracic Surgical Rehabilitation Experts Twente) sternal precautions on quality of life and physical activity levels in cardiac surgery patients, compared to standard care in patients following a median sternotomy: the study protocol.

BACKGROUND: In 2023, a majority (86%) of open-heart surgeries was performed at Thorax Centrum Twente (TCT) via a full median sternotomy. Currently, there is no consensus on postoperative sternal precautions following full median sternotomy. Research from the USA and Canada suggests that existing restrictive sternal precautions may not be necessary. More lenient sternal precautions, such as the "Keep Your Move in the Tube" principle, have shown positive outcomes, with no significant complications. Patients following this approach experienced fewer mobility issues and reported improved quality o

Gaming Disorder Seen Through the Prism of Dual Diagnosis: Prevalence and Associated Factors.

INTRODUCTION: Dual diagnosis (DD) is defined as the co-occurrence of at least a psychiatric disorder and at least an addictive disorder. Most studies about DD considered substance use disorders. In 2018, gaming disorder (GD) was recognized as a formal disorder and integrated into the category of addictive disorders in the 11th version of the International Classification of Diseases. Our objectives were to measure DD prevalence among GD patients and to assess factors associated with the presence of DD. METHODS: As part of the EVALuation of behavioral ADDictions (EVALADD) cohort, 92 patients wi

Sex Differences in a Rat Model of Peripheral Neuropathic Pain and Associated Levels of Endogenous Cannabinoid Ligands.

Chronic neuropathic pain is a major unmet clinical need affecting 10% of the world population, the majority of whom suffer from co-morbid mood disorders. Sex differences have been reported in pain prevalence, perception and response to analgesics. However, sexual dimorphism in chronic neuropathic pain and the associated neurobiology, are still poorly understood. The lack of efficacy and the adverse effects associated with current pharmacological treatments, further underline the need for new therapeutic targets. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a lipid signalling system which regulates a la
