Insights on supplement use during cancer care from online Reddit conversations.

BACKGROUND: Dietary supplement use is common among patients with cancer, yet limited data exist on how patients perceive and use these products during treatment. Traditional research methods may not fully capture patient-driven motivations and experiences. Social media platforms such as Reddit provide a unique opportunity to examine real-world, unfiltered discussions about supplement use in the oncology setting. METHODS: Posts from the subreddit r/cancer published between November 2010 and December 2022 that referenced dietary supplement use were identified using natural language processing (

Sensory-movement underpinnings of lifelong neurodivergence: getting a grip on autism.

While the autism diagnosis emphasizes "deficits" in social communication, the article advances that sensory-movement differences underpin autism through a review of the following sources of evidence. This account critically challenges "autistic regression", with evidence that sensory-movement features appear by birth as the earliest signs of autism and underlie the behavioral differences used for diagnosis, which may reflect adaptations to inherent differences and misunderstandings from others. Sensory and motor differences are salient to autistic people, but they often go underrecognized by o

Prevention of early childhood caries in France, potential perspectives for interprofessional action: a scoping review.

Early childhood caries (tooth decays) is a severe oral health condition that develops under the age of six. In many countries, oral health (including cavity treatment) is provided solely by dentists, who work independently. This organizational structure results in missed opportunities to prevent illnesses that occur throughout the child's health pathway, from birth and even before. The article aims to describe existing strategies for interprofessionality in pediatric oral health, as well as the obstacles and facilitators to their implementation. A scoping review was conducted on PubMed, Web of

Learning impairments in Fmr1-/- mice on an audio-visual temporal pattern discrimination task.

Estimating time and making predictions is integral to our experience of the world. Given the importance of timing to most behaviors, disruptions in temporal processing and timed performance are reported in a number of neuropsychiatric disorders such as Schizophrenia, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Fragile X Syndrome (FXS), and Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Symptoms that implicitly include disruption in timing are atypical turn-taking during social interactions, unusual verbal intonations, poor reading, speech and language skills, inattention, delays in learning, and difficu

Body Art: A Study on Aesthetics and Postural Instability in Patients With Piercings.

Body art is increasing in popularity around the world and may now be considered a mainstream activity even in Western society. In fact, nowadays, this practice has become customary, independent of social and cultural origin. The key motivating factors for obtaining body piercings are individual expression, personal image management, and art. Research in psychology and sociology has shown that the body is not considered acceptable if it is not covered with signs of belonging; that is the reason why an increasing number of people adorn themselves with often permanent decorations. As the prevalen

Navigating water, sanitation and hygiene (WaSH) access at the intersections of poverty, substance use, sex work and gender: A qualitative analysis of Vancouver, Canada's washroom trailer program.

Although substantial disparities in access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) facilities persist in high-income countries (HICs), few studies have explored the WaSH experiences of marginalized and criminalized communities in HICs. Our study assessed how the Washroom Trailer Program (WTP), a municipal response to large-scale closures of public washrooms during the COVID-19 pandemic, shaped experiences of health (in)equity among unhoused/precariously housed people, sex workers and people who use substances in Vancouver, Canada. Specifically, we examined how WTP interventions shaped access t
