A Monte Carlo simulation was conducted to compare five, pairwise multiple comparison procedures. The number of means varied from 4 to 6 and the sample size ratio varied from 1 to 60. Procedures were evaluated on the basis of Type I errors, any-pair power and all-pairs power. Four procedures were shown to be conservative, while the fifth provided adequate control of Type I errors only for restricted values of sample size ratios. Pro-inflammatory cytokines may accelerate development and progression of atherosclerotic process. Interleukin-6 (IL- 6) in such state has essential role. It is caused by its direct and indirect effect on other cytokines, acute phase proteins and endothelial cells. In our work we presented the role of IL-6 in development and progression of atherosclerosis. The influence of traditional risk factors on its secretion was also described. We presented also study in which IL-6 was use to risk assessment of cardiovascular disease both in primary and secondary prevention.

Current tuberculosis (TB) treatment is based on a combination of drugs that were developed mostly in the central decades of the last century. Cure rates are high for drug sensitive strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb) when the recommended complex and lengthy treatment protocols are adhered to. However the difficulty in correctly prescribing and adhering to these protocols, the emergence of M tb strains resistant to multiple drugs, and drug-drug interactions that interfere with optimal treatment of HIV and TB coinfected patients have generated a pressing need for improved TB therapies.

The HIV pandemic has been associated with a rise in the prevalence of primary and recurrent cryptococcosis. Evidence-based treatment algorithms exist for the use of antifungal drugs and maintaining normal intracranial pressure in HIV-infected hosts with cryptococcal meningitis. Further investigation is needed for the treatment of cases with refractory infections and cryptococcosis-related immune reconstitution syndrome, along with the optimal use of adjuvant therapies. Primary and secondary prevention strategies remain at the crux of global control strategies for cryptococcal disease.
