Interactions Between Silver Nanoparticles/Silver Ions and Liposomes: Evaluation of the Potential Passive Diffusion of Silver and Effects of Speciation.

Silver nanoparticles, used mainly for their antibacterial properties, are among the most common manufactured nanomaterials. How they interact with aquatic organisms, especially how they cross biological membranes, remains uncertain. Free Ag+ ions, released from these nanoparticles, are known to play an important role in their overall bioavailability. In this project, we have studied the uptake of dissolved and nanoparticulate silver by liposomes. These unilamellar vesicles, composed of phospholipids, have long been used as models for natural biological membranes, notably to study the potential

[Narcolepsy: From the discovery of a wake promoting peptide to autoimmune T cell biology and molecular mimicry with flu epitopes].

Narcolepsy-cataplexy was first described in the late 19th century in Germany and France. Prevalence was established to be 0.05 % and a canine model was discovered in the 1970s. In 1983, a Japanese study found that all patients carried HLA-DR2, suggesting autoimmunity as the cause of the disease. Studies in the canine model established that dopaminergic stimulation underlies anti-narcoleptic action of psychostimulants, while antidepressants were found to suppress cataplexy through adrenergic reuptake inhibition. No HLA association was found in canines. A linkage study initiated in 1988 revealed

Computational analysis of heart rate variability in ASD and ADHD: a systematic review.

Heart rate variability (HRV) represents a rich physiological signal that captures the computational dynamics of autonomic regulation. Emerging evidence suggests that atypical autonomic control contributes to the neurocognitive phenotype of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD), including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, the characterization of HRV alterations in these populations remains incomplete. This review was motivated by the broader research context of the EMPOWER project, funded through the Horizon Europe program, which investiga

Diagnostic, predictive, and therapeutic approaches for impacted canines: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Maxillary canine impaction affects approximately 1-3% of the population and presents diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic challenges. The clinical utility of artificial intelligence (AI) in this context remains uncertain. We synthesized evidence on diagnostic, predictive, and therapeutic approaches and situated AI-based methods alongside established strategies. METHODS: PRISMA 2020-guided searches of PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase (2015-2024) identified 28 eligible studies, grouped into diagnostic, predictive, and therapeutic domains. Risk of bias was a

Association between famine exposure during early life and the risk of chronic kidney disease in adulthood: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The association between famine exposure and chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains controversial. Our study aimed to consolidate the available data and quantify the effects of early-life starvation on the risk of CKD in adulthood. METHODS: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus and gray literature were searched on January 23, 2025. Random-effects meta-analyses were used to summarize the odds ratios (ORs) and weighted mean differences (WMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: This study included 7 published articles (4 cohort and 3 cross-sectional studie

Women's Knees Are Not Gender-Neutral: A Global Scoping Review of Equity, Representation, and Context in Knee Osteoarthritis Research and Evidence.

Women bear a disproportionate burden of knee osteoarthritis (KOA), yet global research systematically underrepresents sex-specific and context-sensitive analyses, limiting precision care and equitable interventions. We conducted a scoping review following PRISMA-ScR guidelines, systematically mapping studies on KOA in adults from 2000 to 2024 across PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library. A predefined, version-controlled protocol was maintained with timestamped revisions and an independent audit to ensure methodological transparency. Dual independent screening, data extra

Pesticide exposure during pregnancy and the risk of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Pesticides are widely used in agriculture, residential settings, and public spaces, leading to environmental contamination and human exposure. During pregnancy, these compounds may cross the placenta and affect both maternal and fetal health. However, epidemiological evidence remains inconsistent and often focuses on specific pesticide classes or isolated reproductive outcomes. OBJECTIVES: To systematically review and synthesize observational evidence on associations between maternal exposure to currently used pesticide classes and maternal and fetal outcomes. METHODS: A systemat

Newly Diagnosed Celiac Disease and Bone Health in Young Adults: A Systematic Literature Review.

Celiac disease (CD), a gluten-induced autoimmune disease, is associated with low bone mineral density (BMD) among children. Unfortunately, it is often diagnosed in adulthood, which may lead to an increased risk of fragile bones. The aim of this systematic review was to report on BMD status among young adults newly diagnosed with CD, and to examine the effect of a gluten-free diet (GFD), nutritional supplements, such as vitamin D, or antiresorptive medications on BMD recovery. Databases searched were Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library up to July 2nd, 2020. Both observational studies and clin

C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in people with eating disorders: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Studies suggest that there is a relationship between inflammatory diseases, inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP) and psychiatric disorders. In eating disorders, cross-sectional studies have recently examined peripheral CRP levels in blood serum and plasma, which allow a comprehensive meta-analysis. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined studies from three databases, measuring CRP levels in people with eating disorders, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A total n = 14 publications were included into

Depressed Mood During Early to Middle Adolescence: A Bi-national Longitudinal Study of the Unique Impact of Family Conflict.

Adolescent depressed mood is related to the development of subsequent mental health problems, and family problems have been linked to adolescent depression. Longitudinal research on adolescent depressed mood is needed to establish the unique impact of family problems independent of other potential drivers. This study tested the extent to which family conflict exacerbates depressed mood during adolescence, independent of changes in depressed mood over time, academic performance, bullying victimization, negative cognitive style, and gender. Students (13 years old) participated in a three-wave bi
