The combination of nephrotic syndrome with mild histopathological lesions of IgA nephropathy is considered by some as a special form of IgA nephropathy with superimposed minimal change disease (MCD) while by others as a coincidental deposition of IgA in patients with MCD (MCD-IgAN). We present the first case of complete remission of nephrotic syndrome in a 55-year-old man with MCD-IgAN after the administration of a targeted-release formulation of budesonide (TRF-budesonide). The patient's treatment with TRF-budesonide, even though methylprednisolone, mycophenolate mofetil, and cyclophosphamide…

PURPOSE: To report a case with an unusual giant mass in the eyelid which was diagnosed as peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS).
METHODS: A 40-year-old woman was referred with a 1-year history of rapidly and constantly growing eyelid mass.
RESULTS: The patient underwent an incisional biopsy and histopathological examination revealed a PTCL-NOS. After achieving regression by the combination of cyclophosphamide, hydroxydoxorubicin, vincristine (oncovin), etoposide, and prednisolone therapy, the remaining crusts were debrided, the eyelids were separated, and the wound w…

Primary cardiac lymphoma (PCL) is a rare disease, the definite diagnosis of which is sometimes difficult and mainly relies on endomyocardial biopsy. Primary cardiac T-cell lymphoma (PCTL) is an extremely rare sub-type of PCL. Here, we report on a 47-year-old female with PCTL who presented with fever, syncope, palpitations, and a third-degree atrioventricular block (AVB) on electrocardiogram. Chemotherapy was administered with two courses of methotrexate, cyclophosphamide, liposomal doxorubicin, vincristine, and dexamethasone (MTX-CHOP). As the tumor vanished, AVB changed from third degree to s…

Primary bone lymphoma is a very uncommon malignancy, which is responsible for 3% of all bone tumors. We report a case of an 80-year-old pati … diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, which was treated with chemotherapy (age-adjusted R-CHOP [rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone] regimen). In this case report, imaging modalities used to diagnose and stage the disease are discussed. Traditional and new prognostic tools and treatment are also reviewed.

Postoperatively, metronomic chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide and piroxicam was initiated. The tumor recurred on postoperative day 49. Although the bitch died 102 days after the initial examination, her general condition was maintained until death.

A 55-year-old male patient presented with bilateral blurred vision. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia was generally known in the medical history, which was treated by immunochemotherapy with fludarabine, cyclophosphamide and rituximab. Static perimetry revealed a homonymous hemianopia to the left. The neurological examination was otherwise unremarkable. Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) was diagnosed by cranial magnetic resonance imaging and detection of JC virus DNA in the cerebrospinal fluid. SOS is a rare complication of stem cell transplantation and has significant morbidity and mortality. We present three cases of SOS and highlight underlying risk factors for its development, such as impaired clearance of alkylating agents (especially melphalan) in patients with renal failure and prolonged infection. Although, melphalan and cyclophosphamide cause SOS less commonly than alkylating agents such as busulfan, physicians must use caution when administering these drugs to patients with underlying comorbidities such as renal failure that may increase the likelihood of development of SOS…

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by development of autoantibodies to nuclear and cytoplasmic antigens. A small subset of SLE patients who had the typical clinical features of SLE was reported to show persistently negative antinuclear antibody tests. Our report describes a 5-year-old male who presented with histopathological findings suggestive of lupus nephritis with no clinical signs or symptoms of SLE and negative autoantibodies. He was treated with corticosteroids, mycophenolate mofetil, and monthly intravenous cyclophosphamide. During the 2-year fol…

Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor encephalitis is an autoimmune syndrome that presents with personality changes, autonomic dysfunction, and neurologic deterioration. Most patients with this syndrome progress from psychosis to seizure to catatonia, often associated with abnormal movements, autonomic instability, and hypoventilation. First-line treatment constitutes resection of the associated neoplasm, corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulin, and plasma exchange. Second-line treatment includes rituximab and cyclophosphamide. While pleuropulmonary involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a common occurrence, shrinking lung syndrome (SLS) is a rare complication of SLE, particularly in children. We report on a teenager girl with a primary SLE diagnosis, which was based upon clinical, imaging, lung-function and histological findings ascertained to be compatible with SLS. Following a pneumonia, the patient developed inflammatory residues in the lower lobes, an event that probably caused diaphragmatic immobility and subsequently led to SLS. Treatment response to steroids, cyclophosphamide and hydroxychloroqu…

BACKGROUND: Rhabdomyosarcomas, particularly those of gynecologic origin, are very rare in adults. As a result, there is little literature on … iceal origin. Plans for treatment involve adjuvant chemotherapy with vincristine, dactinomycin, and cyclophosphamide.
CONCLUSION: This case adds to the small body of literature surrounding cervical embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in women over the age of 40 years and proposes that appendectomy be considered during surgical management.

Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a systemic vasculitis whose severe forms are treated with glucocorticoids and cyclophosphamide. Small-vessel vasculitic syndromes such as Wegener granulomatosis and microscopic polyangiitis, which are associated with circulating antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies, are an important cause of renal failure. Current immunosuppressive regimens based on cyclophosphamide have significantly improved survival in patients with these conditions. However, such treatments are toxic, increase the risk of infection and do not cure the disease; fresh approaches are, therefore, required. An increased understanding of the pathogenesis of these syndromes has allowed the rational use of newer therapi…
