Intraventricular Isovolumic Relaxation Flow Patterns Studied by Using Vector Flow Mapping.

AIMS: The purpose of this study was to characterize isovolumic relaxation flow (IRF) in the left ventricle (LV) in patients with a wide spectrum of LV dysfunction. METHODS: Color Doppler flow imaging was performed in 61 patients with coronary artery disease, 29 patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, and 41 healthy controls. Vector flow mapping was used to analyze the Doppler data. RESULTS: IRF patterns were divided into three types: pattern A, an apically directed flow; pattern B, a bidirectional flow with small scattered vortices; and pattern C, a large vortex persisting throughout the entir

A Computerized System to Assess Axillary Lymph Node Malignancy from Sonographic Images.

A computational approach to classifying axillary lymph node metastasis in sonographic images is described. One hundred five ultrasound images of axillary lymph nodes from patients with breast cancer were evaluated (81 benign and 24 malignant), and each lymph node was manually segmented, delineating both the whole lymph node and internal hilum surfaces. Normalized signed distance transforms were computed from the segmented boundaries of both structures, and each pixel was then assigned coordinates in a 3-D feature space according to the pixel's intensity, its signed distance to the node boundar

Quantitative MRI for hepatic fat fraction and T2* measurement in pediatric patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease in children. The gold standard for diagnosis is liver biopsy. MRI is a non-invasive imaging method to provide quantitative measurement of hepatic fat content. The methodology is particularly appealing for the pediatric population because of its rapidity and radiation-free imaging techniques. OBJECTIVE: To develop a multi-point Dixon MRI method with multi-interference models (multi-fat-peak modeling and bi-exponential T2* correction) for accurate hepatic fat fraction (FF) and T2* measurement

Optimized lymphoscintigraphy and diagnostics of lymphatic oedema of the lower extremities.

BACKGROUND: The elementary diagnostic method for the detection of lymph circulation abnormalities in extremities is lymphoscintigraphy. This method provides information on the morphology and function of the lymphatic system. However, there are no generally acceptable standards for lymphoscintigraphy, which makes judgment of its clinical usefulness very difficult. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this work, a discussion is presented on the usefulness of static qualitative scintigraphy of the lymphatic system of lower extremities as well as of its quantitative interpretation, depending upon: (1) time m
