A 63-year-old male patient had severe exfoliative dermatitis (erythroderma) which led to the discovery of squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx. The possibility of paraneoplastic erythroderma is discussed. Although such an aetiology is rare, 5 cases with a similar paraneoplastic syndrome have been previously reported, which cannot be considered as a merely fortuitous association of exfoliative dermatitis and visceral cancer.

A case of adenosquamous carcinoma of the renal pelvis is reported, associated with multiple staghorn calculi, occurring in a 35-year-old woman. A review of the literature revealed only two previously reported cases. It is postulated that chronic irritation from the renal calculi had induced squamous and glandular metaplasia with subsequent adenosquamous neoplasia.

In a material of 336 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the hypopharynx treated from 1956 to 1980, overall 5 year survival rate of carcinoma of the hypopharynx was 25%. We have presented a case illustrating that an asymptomatic, red lesion in the oral mucosa should be considered a malignant neoplasm, until proved otherwise. A biopsy and microscopic examination of such lesions are necessary to establish a definitive diagnosis. An appropriate method of obtaining a tissue specimen from the floor of the mouth has been described, and the importance of taking a comprehensive clinical history has been reviewed. The case of a patient with bowenoid papulosis of the penis is described. Although his lesions resembled those of condylomata acuminata, a biopsy showed squamous cell carcinoma in situ. This case and those described in previously published reports confirm that squamous cell carcinoma in situ may exist in a papillomatous form on the genitalia of young adults. Venereologists must be familiar with this entity and must not dismiss all verrucous and papillomatous genital growths as condylomata acuminata.

On the basis of an own observation of a malignant fly-grub infection of the ear and by means of a detailed checking of the literature a benignant and a malignant shape of this disease are distinguished. The peculiarities of the mode of infection in relation to the fly-species are described, some apparent typical characteristics of the Muscidae-Larva infection are put out and directions for treatment are given. The disease nearly wrotten in Europe to-day was not a seldom event especially in the eastern parts of Germany.

Attention is focused on an uncommon, but well-defined clinical and histological entity, which is still often misdiagnosed as a squamous carcinoma. The case described in this article supports the concept that the origin of the cyst is from the outer hair sheath. The importance of some form of irritation which stimulates proliferation of the epithelium is also mentioned.

A patient with a laryngeal tumor first diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma was subsequently found to have North American blastomycosis. Diagnosis of this condition eventuated in eradication of the lesion as well as removal of a tracheostomy, which was thought to be permanent.
