FTIR spectra of pyridine N-oxide and trichloroacetic acid H-bonded complex in acetonitrile were studied at 20 and 50°C. One of the potential consequences of carrying out a Heller's myotomy for achalasia is gastro-oesophageal reflux. Whether it is frequent or severe enough to warrant the routine addition of a fundoplication to the operation is debated. Mesoporous SiO2-P2O5 films were synthesized from the vapor phase onto a silicon substrate. First, a precursor solution of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (C16TAB), H3PO4, ethanol, and water was deposited on a silicon substrate by a spin-coating method. Proton pump inhibitors are among the most prescribed drugs in Belgium, due to the high prevalence of gastrooesophageal reflux disease and significant impairment of health-related well-being. A potential reduction in symptoms related to atrial fibrillation after treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms with proton pump inhibitor therapy has been previously described. However, illustration of this relationship by combined 24-hour pH and ambulatory Holter monitoring has not been performed. A 55-year-old woman, known with multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) type 1, had rectal bleeding and later haematemesis but colonoscopy and gastroduodenoscopy revealed no abnormalities. There is currently no effective treatment for patients with nonulcer dyspepsia. Helicobacter pylori eradication has no beneficial effect on dyspeptic symptoms. Proton pump inhibitors are superior to placebo in the subset of patients with epigastric pain as the predominant symptom. H(2 )Receptor antagonists have no effect. Patients with dysmotility-like dyspepsia should be treated first with prokinetics. Unfortunately, cisapride no longer can be used to treat patients with functional dyspepsia because of reports of serious cardiovascular side effects and subsequent withdraw from the US market.

Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease is common, with up to 10% of the general population experiencing heartburn on a daily basis. It is a chronic condition and follow-up studies indicate the presence of symptoms at least 20 years after initial diagnosis.
