Rapidly recurring right pleural effusion was a disabling clinical problem in a 51-year-old woman with alcoholic cirrhosis that had not been relieved by diuretic therapy or a LeVeen shunt. Peripheral vascular perfusion studies using intravenously administered thallium-201 were performed on 13 patients suffering from ischemic ulcer of the lower extremities. Scintillation camera views and point counting over the lesion and adjacent region were utilized to define qualitatively and quantitatively the relative hyperemia of the lesion. A case report of a congenital esophagobiliary communication with atresia of left ductus hepaticus is presented. The communication of the esophagus with the duct of the left liver lobus was examined by giving Esophotrast into esophagus and by intravenous cholangio-cholecystography and tomography. Atresia of the left ductus hepaticus was detected by intraoperative cholangiography. The case is presented because of its rarity and it has only an embryological explanation.

The ability of axillary lymph nodes to take up 99Tcm-labelled antimony sulphide colloid in suspected carcinoma of the breast was investigated in 111 consecutive patients. Eight out of 17 patients with histologically confirmed carcinoma of the breast had a low colloid uptake on the affected side, i.e. a positive scintiphoto. Experimental airway obstruction is known to cause reflex pulmonary artery constriction, but clinical documentation of reversible bronchial obstruction and vasoconstriction is rare. A soft bronchial adenoma obstructed the left main bronchus, and scans showed minimal ventilation and perfusion on the left. Gas aspirated from beyond the tumor was hypoxic. Radionucleotide scanning with colloidal 198Au and 99Tc sulfur colloid was used to evaluate preoperative and postoperative lymphatic drainage in 10 patients with primary malignant melanoma of the trunk.
