Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a widely used assisted reproduction technique, but in cattle it faces major challenges due to inefficient oocyte activation after sperm microinjection. This study investigated different oocyte activation strategies and assessed the potential role of reducing agents glutathione (GSH), cysteamine (Cys) and dithiobutylamine (DTBA) to improve sperm head decondensation and embryo development following Piezo-ICSI. Haploid parthenogenetic activation using different ethanol concentrations (1%, 3%, 7% and 10%) failed to yield blastocysts, while diploid activat

Photosynthesis is the main process by which biomass of living matter is created from inorganic carbon. However, the efficiency of photosynthesis is low. The main reason for the low efficiency of photosynthesis is the properties of the enzyme that fixes carbon dioxide - ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxidase (RuBisCO). There are reasons to believe that it is impossible to improve the properties of RuBisCO. It is apparently possible to significantly increase the efficiency of photosynthesis only by replacing RuBisCO with another enzyme. Among the known enzymes capable of fixing CO2, there

The impact of environmental pollution on fertility has become an essential issue in global public health. Maturation, fertilisation, and embryonic development of oocytes depend on the energy provided by mitochondria; however, with increased environmental pollution and ageing, mitochondrial dysfunction and its subsequent functional and metabolic abnormalities have become leading causes of female fertility decline. When mitochondrial dysfunction occurs in the oocyte, reduced metabolic efficiency leads to impaired nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation of the oocyte, affecting the quality of the oocy

BACKGROUND: Recurrent Implantation Failure (RIF) is defined as the inability to establish pregnancy despite high-quality embryo transfer after the application of at least three consecutive in vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection-embryo transfer procedures. Chromosomal abnormalities are one of the primary reasons for pregnancy failure, miscarriage, and birth defects in both natural conception and IVF pregnancies. This study was to evaluate the incidence of chromosomal abnormalities in peripheral blood samples from 100 couples who experienced RIF.
METHODS: Chromosomal stru

The development of artificial ovaries presents a promising strategy for patients facing infertility due to chemotherapy or high metastatic potential cancers, where conventional ovarian tissue transplantation poses significant risks. Our study introduces an "injectable artificial ovary" leveraging a xenogeneic extracellular matrix (ECM) hydrogel derived from bovine ovarian tissue. The ECM hydrogel obtained from bovine ovaries and prepared through decellularization, milling, and digestion is injectable and thermo-responsive, preserving the matrix structure without cytotoxicity. This innovative a

Human β Defensin-2 (HBD2) is an Antimicrobial peptide (AMP) that serves a dual function in host defense and fertility. On the other hand, a plethora of microbial infectious agents have been associated with an increased risk of spontaneous abortion (SA). This study examined the impact of HBD-2 on women with SA with a particular focus on its relationship with clue cells and other microbial infections. 100 women aged 17-50 with a history of SA participated. We utilized two vaginal swabs. They were cultivated first. The Vitek2 technique was used after biochemical tests identified the isolates. vag

BACKGROUND: Sperm metabolic pathways that generate energy for motility are compartmentalized within the flagellum. Dysfunctions in metabolic compartments, namely mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis, can compromise motility and male fertility. Studying these compartments is thus required for fertility treatment. However, it is very challenging to capture images of metabolic compartments in motile spermatozoa because the fast beating of the flagellum introduces motion blur. Therefore, most approaches immobilize spermatozoa prior to imaging.
RESULTS: Our findings indicate that immobilizing

INTRODUCTION: Uterine fibroids are a common cause of infertility, and myomectomy remains a key surgical intervention to improve reproductive outcomes. However, the occurrence of an undetected pregnancy during myomectomy is rare and poses significant clinical risks.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 34-year-old woman, nulliparous with a history of secondary infertility and three first-trimester miscarriages. She had multiple fibroids and was managed for polycystic ovarian syndrome and hyperprolactinemia. Scheduled for abdominal myomectomy, the surgery proceeded uneventfully, with six fibroids rem

Chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause gonadal dysfunction in women of reproductive age. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is performed to restore fertility by allowing transplantation of the patient's frozen-thawed ovarian tissue or through future in vitro maturation and in vitro fertilization of frozen-thawed oocytes. Herein, we describe our initial experience with vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery for ovarian tissue preservation in a young woman with malignant tumor. A 23-year-old woman with anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive malignant lymphoma was scheduled for h

SUMMARY: Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) usually occurs in patients undergoing assisted reproduction techniques and ovulation induction. Its variant, spontaneous ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, a potentially life-threatening disorder, is uncommon and only a few cases have been reported in association with hypothyroidism. This study analysed five patients with untreated chronic hypothyroidism presenting with multicystic ovaries, isosexual precocious puberty, and delayed bone age; subsequently, the follow-up and regression of ovarian pathology was assessed. Two patients had presented

Axolotls (Ambystoma mexicanum) are extensively studied for their relevance in human medical research. Despite being critically endangered in the wild, they have gained popularity as household pets. Although they have been kept in captivity for over a century, detailed descriptions of their coelomic organ anatomy remain limited. Also, this species exhibits significant variations compared to other amphibians. Ultrasound is a non-invasive and painless medical imaging technique, ideally suited for investigating internal organs or structures. This study focused on describing the ultrasound appearan

OBJECTIVE: Endometrial scratching (ES) during hysteroscopy before embryotransfer (ET) remains doubtable on whether it benefits the reproductive outcomes. The optimal technique is not clear and repeated implantation failure as a challenging field in in vitro fertilization (IVF) seems to be the springboard for clinicians to test its effectiveness.
METHODS: Medline, PMC, ScienceDirect, Scopus, CENTRAL, Google Scholar were searched from their inception up to April 2023 for studies to evaluate the effectiveness of adding endometrial scratching during hysteroscopy before ET.
RESULTS: The initial s

The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected women and threatens to overturn four decades of progress in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5: Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment. To better grasp the key areas of concern that gender inequality exists, gender studies and sex-disaggregated evidence are required. Using the PRISMA technique, this review paper is the first attempt to present a comprehensive and current picture of the gendered dimensions of the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh regarding economic well-being, resource endowments, and agency. This study found that women wer

INTRODUCTION: Autosomal recessive renal tubular dysgenesis (ARRTD) is a rare genetic disorder with a very high mortality rate. The typical symptoms of the disease during pregnancy are oligohydramnios, anhydramnios, and nearly all affected fetuses die after birth or have a stillbirth in late gestation, which can adversely increase maternal risks.
METHODS: Oligohydramnios/anhydramnios can make both amniocentesis for diagnostic testing and morphological evaluation via ultrasound more difficult. In cases of oligohydramnios/anhydramnios suspicious for urinary tract anomalies, amnioinfusion is a me

The European mink (Mustela lutreola) is one of Europe's most endangered species, and it is on the brink of extinction in the Iberian Peninsula. The species' precarious situation requires the application of new ex situ conservation methodologies that complement the existing ex situ and in situ conservation measures. Here, we report for the first time the establishment of a biobank for European mink mesenchymal stem cells (emMSC) and oocytes from specimens found dead in the Iberian Peninsula, either free or in captivity. New emMSC lines were isolated from different tissues: bone marrow (emBM-MSC

Drinking or recreating water that has been polluted with disease-causing organisms or pathogens is what causes waterborne infections. It should be noted that many water-borne infections can also transmit from person to person, by contact with animals or their surroundings, or by ingesting tainted food or beverages. Schistosomiasis is a water-borne infection found in different areas of the globe. Mostly people with this viral infection live in Africa with limited resources and medications. Therefore, investigation of this infection is significant to reduce its economic burden on the society. We
