There have been numerous technical advancements in the field of endoscopic spine surgery since it began in the 1980s and its use further expanded in the 1990s. At present, there are many newer technical advancements in this field, each trying to expand the indications and afford more accurate execution of this procedure. We predict some technologies which can be classified as being disruptive and have the potential of being game changers in this exciting field in the near future.

BACKGROUND: Plexiform schwannoma (PS), variant of schwannoma, often involves multiple fascicles as plexiform neurofibroma, and is usually located superficially on the dermis and subcutaneous layers. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disease resulting in loss of motor function, presents from in utero to adulthood. Depending on progression and secondary scoliosis, spinal stabilization may be necessary. When planning intrathecal access in these patients, spinal anatomy is the most important factor. RATIONALE: Brown tumor (BT) is a rare benign lesion in skeletal system. It is especially rare secondary to primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT). The differential diagnosis can be misleading due to its diversified clinical characteristics. Final diagnosis mainly relies on excessive elevated parathyroid hormone and biopsy. Treatments include surgical interventions and drugs. Only 19 articles (total 22 cases) reported BT of spine caused by primary HPT.

INTRODUCTION: In this study we investigate the risk of radiation-induced serious adverse event of the spine in a large cohort of consecutive retreated patients with palliative radiotherapy (RT) for metastatic cancer in the spine.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: From 2010 to 2014, 2387 patients received spinal irradiation with a palliative intent for metastatic spinal cord compression at our institution. The authors present a technical note for a prone positioning system developed to facilitate cervical extension osteotomy for ankylosing spondylitis in the presence of severe deformity and frailty. Chin-on-chest deformity represents one of the most debilitating changes of ankylosing spondylitis. Where the chin-brow angle approaches or exceeds 90°, prone positioning becomes problematic due to the fixed position of the head. Furthermore, the challenge is compounded where physiological deconditioning leads to frailty, and the side effects of medical therapies decrease muscle mass and skin quality.
