There have been several advances in the diagnosis of multiple myeloma (MM) in recent years. Serum free light chains have improved the ability to diagnose light chain MM; however, there are still difficulties in the serologic diagnosis of MM in some cases, particularly IgA MM. A novel heavy/light chain assay is able to improve the accuracy of diagnosis in these cases. Tongue control with low profile, passive mouth tags is demonstrated as a human-device interface by communicating values of tongue-tag separation over a wireless link. Confusion matrices are provided to demonstrate user accuracy in targeting by tongue position. Accuracy is found to increase dramatically after short training sequences with errors falling close to 1% in magnitude with zero missed targets. The past decade has seen the discovery of numerous broad and potent monoclonal antibodies against HIV type 1 (HIV-1). Eliciting these antibodies via vaccination appears to be remarkably difficult, not least because they arise late in infection and are highly mutated relative to germline antibody sequences. Here, using a computational model, we show that broad antibodies could in fact emerge earlier and be less mutated, but that they may be prevented from doing so as a result of competitive exclusion by the autologous antibody response. INTRODUCTION: Chronic pyelonephritis is associated with progressive renal scarring and occurs, most of the time, in patients with major anatomical anomalies, including urinary tract obstruction, calculi, renal dysplasia or vesicoureteric reflux. We report the computed tomography imaging findings of a patient with chronic pyelonephritis appearing as a renal sinus mass. AIM: Goal of the current study was to compare radiation dose and fluoroscopy time of fluoroscopic computer assisted pedicle screw implantation versus the conventional technique.

HISTORY: A 41-year -old man was admitted for resection of several liver segments, because a malignant tumor was suspected. He had two years previously sustained blunt trauma to the abdomen and chest. In 7 splenectomized and 21 non splenectomized pediatric patients with hereditary spherocytosis (HS), red cell size and hemoglobin concentration distribution (erythrograms) demonstrated the size and chromia degree of red cell populations. Staging of carcinoma of the base of the tongue according to the system adopted by the American Joint Committee on Cancer relies on clinical examination possibly augmented by multiple biopsies.
