We present the first known complication of forearm compartment syndrome after mannitol infusion during partial nephrectomy. We stress the importance of excellent intravenous catheter access and constant visual monitoring of the intravenous catheter site during and after mannitol infusion as ways to prevent this complication. Prompt recognition of compartment syndrome with appropriate intervention can prevent long-term sequelae.

We report a 71-year male with castration-resistant metastatic prostate cancer who was treated with weekly docetaxel for 12 weeks and developed significant eye irritation and dryness during treatment. Subsequently, the patient presented with a lower eyelid mass, which on excision was demonstrated to be a chalazion. Docetaxel induced Meibomian duct inflammation and blockage is the likely cause of this presentation in a patient with no history of eyelid masses in the past.

A 28-year-old woman presented with pain and redness in her left eye. On examination, a free-floating cyst of size 4 mm with prominent scolex was observed in the anterior chamber. Scolex was occasionally moving in and out of its bag. To prevent the cyst migrating to the posterior chamber, pilocarpine eye drops were instilled. Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common tumor of minor salivary glands, but it is rarely located in the soft palate. It is generally a small mass at the time of diagnosis, but if it is neglected it can rarely become larger, leading to obstructive symptoms such as snoring, hypernasal speech, and dysphagia. Surgical removal of the mass is curative. In this paper, we present a case of an unusually large pleomorphic adenoma of the soft palate leading to snoring and hypernasal speech. The defect that resulted from the excision of the mass is covered with a uvular flap.

The present study deals with the genetic polymorphism of the mexR gene which is involved in the resistance to drugs like ciprofloxacin. Mutations in mexR result in increased resistance to multiple antibiotics due to overexpression of this efflux system. The MexR product contains 147 amino acids with a molecular mass of 16,964 Da. OBJECTIVE: This study presents the long-term outcome of 321 epicardial leads in 138 patients.
METHODS AND RESULTS: All leads were Medtronic CapsureEpi model 4965 steroid eluting leads. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year patient survival was 91%, 83% and 77%, respectively.Twenty-seven patients died. Clinical history and inappropriate insulin secretion during hypoglycemic episodes permit the diagnosis of hyperinsulinism. We report 2 cases of factitious hyperinsulinism leading to partial pancreatectomy. Case 1 was an 8-year-old girl who presented with severe hypoglycemia and elevated insulin and C-peptide levels. Child abuse and neglect is any interaction or lack of interaction between a caregiver and a child resulting in nonaccidental harm to the child's physical and developmental state. Substance abuse is ingestion of any drug, which is capable of altering the mental functioning eventually leading to addiction. This paper presents a case report of a 12-year-old neglected girl with substance abuse for which she was physically abused by her mother.
