Five new euphane-type triterpenoid glucosides namely lantaeuphanosides A-E (1-5) along with homoplantaginin (6), 6-O-methyl-scutellarin (7), and isoverbascoside (8) were isolated from the methanol extract of the leaves of Lantana camara Linn. Their structures were elucidated by HRESI-MS, 1D, and 2D NMR data analysis. The inhibitory effects of 1-5 on nitric oxide production induced by lipopolysaccharide in RAW264.7 cells were evaluated. Moderate inhibition was found for lantaeuphanosides D (4) and E (5) with IC50 values of 51.59 ± 5.68 and 29.19 ± 2.25 μM, respectively.

Herein, we describe the use of benzeneseleninic acid derivatives (BSA) as a bench-stable and easy to handle selenium reagent to access 4-(selanyl)isoquinoline-N-oxides through the selenocyclization of o-alkynyl benzaldehyde oximes. The reaction is conducted in refluxing methanol, allowing the thermal generation of electrophilic selenium species in situ. By this new protocol, a library of 19 selenium-decorated N-oxide isoquinolines was accessed in up to 96% yield with an outstanding substrate tolerance and the feasibility to scale it up 10 times (from 0.25 to 2.5 mmol).

Both enantiomers of sparteine have suffered from pricing and supply chain variability, which has inspired efforts toward efficient chemical synthesis. Here, we build upon our reported synthesis of the matrine-type lupin alkaloids in order to synthesize (±)-sparteine. In this study we demonstrate the use of Direct Analysis in Real Time Mass Spectrometry (DART) as a powerful tool for detection of nonoxynol in vaginal fluid post contact with a condom, enabling rapid tracing and added evidences in sexual assault crimes. In the title compound, [MeC5H4NCONHCH2C6H5]I or C14H15N2O+·I-, a cation and an anion form an ionic pair linked by a strong N-H⋯I hydrogen bond. In the crystal, ionic pairs linked by weak C-H⋯I hydrogen bonds form infinite ribbons along the crystallographic a axis. Polymorphism screening varying crystallization solvents (water, acetone 90%-water, ethanol 90%-water, 2-propanol 90%-water, DMF, DMSO, methanol, aceto-nitrile) and conditions (solution temperature, heating and cooling protocols) did not reveal any other polymorphs than the one reported in this work.

A combination of structures, energies, and spectral data calculated using density functional theory (DFT) with experimental NMR data has been used to assign conformational equilibria for tetracycline and 5a,6-anhydrotetracycline in water at pH 1, 7, and 10 and in chloroform (5a,6-anhydrotetracycline) and methanol (tetracycline). A method is described for the high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) determination of phenylpropanolamine (PPA) based on precolumn derivatization with 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (DAB) and elution from phenomenex C-18 column with methanol-water and detection by spectrophotometry at 418 nm. We have successfully expressed and observed secretion of the Streptomyces clavuligerus deacetoxycephalosporin C synthase (DAOCS) using the Pichia pastoris expression system. Two clones having multiple copies of the expression cassette were selected and used for protein-expression analysis. This paper describes a quantitative assay of 2-(2-thiophenecarboxy)benzoic acid and its systemic metabolites, namely salicylic acid and thiophenecarboxylic acid, by high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection at 254 nm. Analytes were extracted from acidified samples with tert.-butylmethyl ether and separated with an RP-18 column (150 mm x 3 mm I.D., 5 microns particle size) with a mixture of 0.01 M potassium phosphate and methanol (70:30, v/v) at pH 3.1. The method proved to have the validation required for pharmacokinetic investigations in animals and humans.

1. A procedure for the routine assay of Naproxen in serum by ultraviolet spectrophotometry is presented. The absorption coefficient (A1 1% cm) of Naproxen in methanol at 261 nm was found to be 216. 2. The Naproxen procedure appears to be relatively free from interferences of commonly coadministered medications. Salicylate interference is eliminated by a modified procedure. 3. Concentrations of Naproxen in a limited number (40) of clinical samples ranged from non-detected to 12.5 mg/dl. The therapeutic concentration appears to be 4 to 6 mg/dl (174-260 mumol/L).
