BACKGROUND: Posterior sternoclavicular (SC) physeal separations are rare injuries in adolescents and pose a significant risk of life-threatening complications due to potential compression of vital mediastinal structures. This necessitates prompt diagnosis and stable fixation to ensure safe healing and return to function.
INDICATIONS: The primary indication for surgery was an acute, unstable, posteriorly displaced physeal fracture of the medial clavicle in a 14-year-old competitive jiu-jitsu athlete. Computed tomography revealed the displaced metaphyseal fragment abutting the junction of the r

PURPOSE: Concomitant carpal tunnel release (CTR) during distal radius fracture (DRF) fixation is performed with the goal of preventing symptomatic carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). However, evidence supporting this practice remains limited. This study evaluated whether CTR at the time of DRF open reduction and internal fixation reduces subsequent CTR procedures and other associated surgical complications.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX database identified adult patients who underwent DRF open reduction and internal fixation between 2010 and 2025. Patients were categorized

OBJECTIVES: Trans-olecranon fracture-dislocations are rare in children. To our knowledge, only 12 cases have been described in children till now and the treatment strategy for this injury in children remains unclear. To provide a clear clinical description and more accurate treatment options, we retrospectively reviewed cases with this kind of injury in our institution.
METHODS: From 2002 to 2019, eleven cases diagnosed with trans-olecranon fracture-dislocation of the elbow were identified, and their medical charts and radiographs were obtained. All patients underwent open reduction and inter

The authors present an unusual case of the inveterated simultaneous dislocation of the proximal and distal radioulnar joints without an associated fracture in a 55-years-old man. Both dislocations persisted 4 months after injury and primary unsuccessful open reduction of the radial head. The left forearm was fixed in rigid full supination of 90 degrees and no rotational movements of the forearm were possible. Darrach's procedure and radial head resection resulted in 135 degrees of the forearm rotation (from 0 degrees to 90 degrees of supination, from 0 degrees to 45 degrees of pronation) witho

PURPOSE OF STUDY: Fractures of the distal radius and distal ulna require anatomical reconstruction for good restoration of wrist and hand function. In this study we compared the results of conservative treatment with those of plate osteosynthesis management in distal ulna fractures of patients who had concomitant fractures of the distal radius indicated for plate osteosynthesis. Our objective was to specify indications for plate osteosynthesis of a distal ulna fracture in the case of an associated distal radius fracture.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 27 patients were evaluated. In 17 of th

UNLABELLED: The valgus-impacted (VI) 4-part fractures are a subset of fractures of the proximal humerus with a unique anatomic configuration characterized by a relatively lower incidence of avascular necrosis after operative intervention. We systematically reviewed clinical studies assessing the benefits and harms of least possible fixation techniques (LPFT) for this unique fracture type. Such information would be potentially helpful in developing an evidence-based approach in the management of these complex injuries. We performed analytic searches of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Google Sch

BACKGROUND: Since 2015, we have performed arthroscopy-assisted closed reduction and percutaneous pinning (A/S-CRPP) for children with a displaced lateral condylar humeral fracture (LCF). The purpose of this study is to introduce our A/S-CRPP method and present its outcomes.
METHODS: In total, 39 displaced (>2 mm) LCFs for which A/S-CRPP was initially attempted and with available follow-up data of >12 months were retrospectively reviewed. A/S-CRPP is performed in the following order: closed reduction, 1 provisional K-wire fixation, arthroscopic verification of the reduction status, rereduction

Mandibular fractures represent a significant component of maxillofacial trauma, frequently associated with functional impairment, esthetic compromise, and complex biomechanical challenges. Advances in imaging, surgical techniques, and biomaterials have progressively transformed management strategies, shifting emphasis toward stable fixation, early mobilisation, and biologically favourable healing. The objective of this narrative review is to synthesise contemporary evidence on evolving surgical approaches and biomaterial applications in mandibular fracture management, highlighting clinical out

A combination of an anterior sternoclavicular (SC) joint dislocation with a midshaft clavicle fracture is an extremely rare injury. If left untreated, it can lead to severely impaired function of the shoulder with a high risk for complications. A 45-year-old male patient presented with pain and impaired range of motion (ROM) in the left shoulder after a mountain bike crash. Radiographs and a computed tomography scan showed an anterior dislocation of the left SC joint and an ipsilateral midshaft fracture of the clavicle. Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the clavicle combined with

Several anatomic plates for fixation of the olecranon after a fracture or an osteotomy are commercially available. They serve as an alternative for tension band wiring, which is associated with a relatively high complication rate. Plating of the olecranon reportedly might result in nonunion or malunion and eventually may require revision surgery or plate removal because of skin irritation. The authors describe a proximal periprosthetic avulsion fracture of the tip of the olecranon as a unique complication associated with the use of an anatomic plate for fixation of an olecranon osteotomy. This

BACKGROUND: Lateral column tibial plateau fracture fixation with a locking screw plate has higher mechanical stability than other fixation methods. The objectives of the present study were to introduce two newly designed locking anatomic plates for lateral tibial plateau fracture and to demonstrate their characteristics of the fixation complexes under the axial loads.
METHODS: Three different 3D finite element models of the lateral tibial plateau fracture with the bone plates were created. Various axial forces (100, 500, 1000, and 1500 N) were applied to simulate the axial compressive load on

Nonunion fractures, especially of the femur, pose a considerable difficulty in orthopedic management due to their propensity to result in enduring physical disability and psychological complications. Conventional surgical procedures, although efficacious, may entail difficulties and have a reduced success rate for atrophic nonunions. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has arisen as a viable non-invasive option, facilitating bone regeneration via many biological mechanisms. This case report describes the management of a 40-year-old male patient with a distal-third open femoral fracture res

INTRODUCTION: Even with the advancement of limb salvage surgery techniques, forequarter amputation (FQA) is still used in orthopedic oncology. Even though it might pose catastrophic sequelae on the patient's lifestyle, debilitating one's ability to perform regular tasks, FQA is still considered as a treatment of last resort for huge fungating tumors of the upper extremity.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of an 18-year-old male patient, who was diagnosed in Libya with left proximal humerus fracture after a trivial trauma and underwent open reduction and internal fixation using k-wires as

Surgical treatment and complications in patients with mandibular fractures leads to a significant degree of tissue trauma resulting in common postoperative symptoms and signs of pain, facial swelling, mandible dysfunction and limited mouth opening (trismus). Beneficial effects of local cold treatment on postoperative swelling, oedema, pain, inflammation and haemorrhage, as well as the reduction of metabolism, bleeding and haematomas have been described. The aim of this study was to compare postoperative cooling therapy by cooling compresses with the water-circulating cooling face mask by Hilot
