The purpose of this study was to assess growth patterns after lengthening of the congenitally short femur or tibia in children younger than 6 years. Twenty such children underwent 28 bone segment lengthenings (13 femora and 15 tibiae) by distraction osteogenesis. This study establishes the prevalence rates at birth of the skeletal dysplasias which can be diagnosed in the perinatal period or during pregnancy. Using a population-based register of congenital anomalies, a prevalence rate of 3.22 0/000 was observed. Here, gentamicin-loaded silk/nanosilver composite scaffolds were developed to treat MRSA-induced chronic osteomyelitis. Growth deficiency is the most common secondary feature of osteogenesis imperfecta. It is unrelated to fracture history and appears to be due to the growth failure of the defective bony matrix. Open reduction and internal fixation utilizing a full thickness fibular graft was performed on a patient who presented with a 9-year-old functional nonunion of a femoral neck stress fracture. During this period, the patient had remained fully ambulatory, with intermittent episodes of hip pain.
