MRI In Vivo Detection of Amyloid-β Protein Deposition in Different Brain Regions of Patients with AD and MCI.

To investigate a non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based method for detecting amyloid-β (Aβ) protein deposition in different brain regions of patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). This study included 80 patients with MCI and 62 patients with AD, who were randomly divided into training and testing sets at an 8:2 ratio. All participants underwent 18 F-florbetapir positron emission tomography (PET) imaging and three-dimensional T1-weighted MRI. The interval between MRI and PET examinations did not exceed 30 days. A deep learning-based three-dimens

Short-term, circuit-based heat acclimation enhances intermittent work capacity, reaction time, and neuromuscular function under heat stress in active males.

Exertional heat stress impairs cardiovascular, thermoregulatory, cognitive, and neuromuscular function, compromising health and performance. Although effective, traditional active heat acclimation (HA) relies on prolonged, low- to moderate-intensity exercise heat exposures and may therefore lack context-specificity. We investigated whether short-duration, high-intensity, circuit-based HA elicits favorable performance and thermophysiological adaptations. Eighteen participants completed either five circuit training sessions in hot (HEAT: 35°C; n = 9) or thermoneutral conditions (CON: 20°C; n = 9

Eye-tracking metrics as a new tool to assess patient's adherence to robot-assisted gait training.

The growing use of robotic rehabilitation in clinical practice has changed the dyadic interaction between physiotherapist and patient, introducing novel elements such as performance-based feedback (FB). The latter has a strong impact on patients' motivation, participation and error-driver learning, which are crucial aspects to consider in order to optimize the rehabilitation session to achieve successful outcomes. In addition, the presence of FB has a relevant contribution in promoting the active participation of the patient during the execution of movement. Several studies have demonstrated,

Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial to Enhance Executive Function via Brief Mindfulness Training in Individuals with Internet Gaming Disorder.

BACKGROUND: Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) is characterized by uncontrolled gaming behavior, leading to emotional distress, neglect of academic or life responsibilities, and damage to interpersonal relationships, all of which have serious negative impacts on individuals and society. IGD has been associated with neuropsychological impairments, especially executive function deficits, and emotional difficulties. Mindfulness interventions have been indicated to improve executive functions to varying degrees in individuals with IGD. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the three subc

Exposure and response of private practice psychiatrists in Greece to illicit substance use-related treatment requests: A cross-sectional survey.

The use of illicit substances is a major public health problem. While individuals with substance use problems primarily seek treatment in specialized treatment programs, the role, exposure, and response of private practice psychiatrists to requests for substance use-related problems remain unclear. This study aims to assess private practice psychiatrists' exposure to and response to treatment requests for substance use-related problems, along with examining the requests' characteristics. A cross-sectional online anonymous survey was administered involving private practice psychiatrists in Gree

Differential expression of genes in the RhoA/ROCK pathway in the hippocampus and cortex following intermittent hypoxia and high-intensity interval training.

Structural neuroplasticity such as neurite extension and dendritic spine dynamics is enhanced by brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and impaired by types of inhibitory molecules that induce growth cone collapse and actin depolymerization, for example, myelin-associated inhibitors, chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans, and negative guidance molecules. These inhibitory molecules can activate RhoA/rho-associated coiled-coil containing protein kinase (ROCK) signaling (known to restrict structural plasticity). Intermittent hypoxia (IH) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) are known to upr

Understanding the role of psychiatrists in the diagnosis and management of mild cognitive impairment and mild Alzheimer's disease dementia: a cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurological disorder and the most common cause of dementia. The clinical continuum of AD ranges from asymptomatic disease to mild cognitive impairment (MCI), followed by AD dementia, categorized as mild, moderate, or severe. Almost one-third of patients suspected of having MCI or mild AD dementia are referred to specialists including psychiatrists. We sought to better understand the role that psychiatrists play in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with all-cause MCI or mild AD dementia. METHODS: We conducted an anonymou

Cost-Effectiveness and Cost-Utility of a Home-Based Exercise Program in Geriatric Patients with Cognitive Impairment.

INTRODUCTION: There is a substantial lack of home-based exercise programs in the highly vulnerable group of geriatric patients with cognitive impairment (CI) after discharge from ward rehabilitation. Beyond clinical effectiveness, the cost-effectiveness of intervention programs to enhance physical performance is not well investigated in this target group. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to determine the cost-effectiveness of a 12-week home-based exercise intervention following discharge from ward rehabilitation compared to unspecified flexibility training for geriatric patients with CI fr

Cost-effectiveness of an integrated 'fast track' rehabilitation service for multi-trauma patients involving dedicated early rehabilitation intervention programs: design of a prospective, multi-centre, non-randomised clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: In conventional multi-trauma care service (CTCS), patients are admitted to hospital via the accident & emergency room. After surgery they are transferred to the IC-unit followed by the general surgery ward. Ensuing treatment takes place in a hospital's outpatient clinic, a rehabilitation centre, a nursing home or the community. Typically, each of the CTCS partners may have its own more or less autonomous treatment perspective. Clinical evidence, however, suggests that an integrated multi-trauma rehabilitation approach ('Supported Fast-track multi-Trauma Rehabilitation Service': SFT

Case report: a case of intractable Meniere's disease treated with autogenic training.

BACKGROUND: Psychological stress plays an important role in the onset and course of Meniere's disease. Surgical therapy and intratympanic gentamicin treatment are options for cases that are intractable to conventional medical therapy. Psychotherapy, however, including autogenic training (AT), which can be used for general relaxation, is not widely accepted. This paper describes the successful administration of AT in a subject suffering from intractable Meniere's disease. CASE PRESENTATION: A 51-year-old male patient has suffered from fluctuating right sensorineural hearing loss with vertigo s

Health Literacy and Communication in Stroke Prevention, Management, and Recovery: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.

Health literacy is a critical component of high-quality stroke care. Across the continuum from prevention through recovery, health literacy is strongly associated with functional outcomes and stroke-related morbidity. Despite its importance, it is often overlooked, leaving patients and caregivers overwhelmed by communication demands that exceed their capacity. These mismatches are especially pronounced among individuals with stroke-related cognitive or language impairments, limited English proficiency, socioeconomic disadvantage, or limited digital literacy. This scientific statement synthesiz
