INTRODUCTION: Skeletal anomalies are in the group of anomalies most difficult to be diagnosed antenatally. But, because of high lethality and morbidity rate as well as high possibility to be found again in the next pregnancy, they need to be systematically and actively looked for during every scan.
CASE REPORT: A pregnant woman, aged 18, primigravida, was admitted to the Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology because of polyhydramnios and suspected multiple fetal malformations. Fetal biparietal diameter and abdominal circumference were adequate for 33 weeks gestation, whereas all the long bones

BACKGROUND: Ectodermal dysplasia (ED) is a hereditary condition stemming from genetic defects that disrupt the development of ectoderm-derived tissues, affecting structures such as hair, teeth, nails, and sweat glands. A rare manifestation of ED is anodontia, the complete congenital absence of both primary and permanent dentition. This absence leads to underdeveloped alveolar ridges, significantly complicating dental rehabilitation efforts.
CASE PRESENTATION: This case report details the management of a 27-year-old female patient with ED and anodontia who presented with a fragile zygomatic bo

Successful non-union therapy consists of a combination of optimizing mechanical stability and activating biological factors. The conventional method for treating non-union is debridement and stabilization with metal hardware. The human allogeneic cortical bone screw (Shark Screw®) merges human cortical bone properties with screw stability, addressing non-union surgery principles by integrating mechanical and biological aspects. The objective of this retrospective study was to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of the conventional method with those of the new method using the Shark

BACKGROUND: Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) is widely used for cuff-deficient and degenerative shoulder conditions in older adults. While stemmed implants offer long-term success, stemless designs have gained attention due to bone preservation and ease of revision, but evidence remains limited.
METHODS: A systematic search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar till June 2025. Five studies met the inclusion criteria. Key outcomes included satisfaction, Visual Analog Scale for pain, functional scores, shoulder range of motion (ROM), fracture-related co

BACKGROUND: Patients with radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA) are at an increased risk of osteoporotic fractures compared to the general population.
AIM: To evaluate the clinical utility of trabecular bone score (TBS) compared with bone mineral density (BMD) for predicting major osteoporotic fractures (MOF) in patients with radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA).
METHODS: A total of 63 patients with r-axSpA were included. At baseline, lumbar spine DXA, thoracic and lumbar spine X-rays, and basic demographic data were collected. Patients were followed for 3 years, after whi

Extra-osseous calcification refers to the pathological deposition of calcium salts in soft tissues. Its most recognized forms affect the cardiovascular system, leading to vascular and heart valve calcifications. This process is active and regulated, involving the phenotype transition of resident cells into osteo/chondrogenic lineage. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients frequently suffer from vascular and other soft tissue calcification. OsteoSense dyes are fluorescent imaging agents developed to visualize calcium deposits during bone formation. In addition to its application in bone physiolo

PURPOSE: Compromised swallowing, speaking, and local complications are the major disadvantages of established approaches to the posterior tongue and oropharynx. The mandibular split involves an esthetically unpleasant bipartition of the lower lip and is prone to bony non-union or sequestration. The conventional pull-through technique on the other hand lacks the secure reattachment of the lingually released soft tissues.
METHODS: The feasibility of a new modified pull-through approach was tested on three anatomical specimens. CAD/CAM cutting guides were used to design a retentive bone flap to

BACKGROUND: Complex fractures of the trochanteric region, as well as fractures located in the directly subtrochanteric region, are controversially discussed around the world regarding the nail type to be used. A long nail is recommended by manufacturers but requires longer surgical and fluoroscopy times. A possible solution could be a nail with an appropriate length which can be locked in a minimally invasive manner by the main aiming device. We aimed to determine if such a nail model (DCN SL nail, SWEMAC, Linköping, Sweden) offers similar structural stability on biomechanical testing on artif

Testosterone acting via the androgen receptor, and via aromatisation to oestradiol, an activator of the oestrogen receptor, plays key roles in adipose tissue, bone and skeletal muscle biology. This is reflected in epidemiological studies associating obesity and disordered glucose metabolism with lower serum testosterone concentrations and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in men. Testosterone also modulates erythrocytosis and vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cell function, with potential impacts on haematocrit and the cardiovascular system. The Testosterone for the Prevention of

BACKGROUND: Bone conduction hearing systems are used for patients with conductive or combined hearing loss who cannot be adequately treated with air conduction hearing aids or surgery. These hearing systems can be surgically implanted or reversibly attached using bone conduction eyeglasses or a rigid or soft headband. A nonsurgical and pressure-free alternative is fixation via an adhesive plate.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the energy transferred from the hearing aid to the mastoid when attached via a new adhesive plate versus via a soft headband. In addition, the comfort a

BACKGROUND Amyloid light-chain (AL) amyloidosis is usually due to deposition of immunoglobulin lambda light chains from plasma cells in patients with multiple myeloma. AL amyloid may involve the salivary glands, gastrointestinal tract, peripheral nerves, and skin. However, musculoskeletal amyloid and amyloid arthropathy are rare. This report is of a woman with bilateral upper limb musculoskeletal amyloid and amyloid arthropathy associated with multiple myeloma, initially diagnosed and managed as a case of rheumatoid arthritis. CASE REPORT A 59-year-old woman who was initially diagnosed with rh

Type II rickets is a hereditary disease caused by a mutation in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene. The main symptoms of this disease are bone dysplasia and alopecia. Bone dysplasia can be ameliorated by high calcium intake; however, there is no suitable treatment for alopecia. In this study, we verified whether gene therapy using an adenoviral vector (AdV) had a therapeutic effect on alopecia in Vdr-KO rats. The VDR-expressing AdV was injected into six 7-week-old female Vdr-KO rats (VDR-AdV rats). On the other hand, control-AdV was injected into 7-week-old female rats (control-AdV rats); non-i

BACKGROUND: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is the predominant subtype of esophageal cancer in China and so differs from presentations in Western countries. Common metastatic locations of esophageal cancer include the liver, lung, bone, and brain. In contrast, metastases in subcutaneous soft tissue are exceedingly rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the experience of a 57-year-old man with a complaint of hand and leg dysfunction on the right side. He had a past medical history of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Further imaging workup revealed a solitary brain metastasis, thickening of

INTRODUCTION: Malignant diseases with infiltration of bony structures in the area of the phalanges or metacarpals require either amputation or complex reconstruction. The decision for reconstruction means to restore length, mobility, sensibility, stability as well as aesthetics.
METHODS: We present a case of complex first ray reconstruction of the left hand using a free osteocutaneous lateral arm flap from the ipsilateral side. The reconstruction was performed after radical resection of an exulcerated squamous cell carcinoma, including the first metacarpal bone, trapezium, partial trapezoid a

Reconstruction is very important to ensure good function and quality of life after bone tumor resection. For metacarpals and phalanges, amputation and toe transfer are the gold-standard indications; nevertheless, allograft reconstruction must also be taken into account. Unfortunately, because of its inert biological behavior, it undergoes progressive resorption, with frequent fracture. Several attempts have been made to induce new vascularization in massive bone allograft, with poor results. However, neo-angiogenesis was reported with vascular loops, and we therefore hypothesized that heterolo

BACKGROUND: Jaccoud's arthropathy (JA) is a condition characterized by joint deformities that have a "reducible" pattern, that is, they return to the normal appearance with a passive manoeuvre. JA was described in patients with rheumatic fever (RF) more than a century ago, and presently, the majority of the patients have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
PURPOSE: The aim of this review is to draw one attention to the epidemiology, pathogenesis, histopathology, clinical features, imaging, and management of JA in patients with SLE (Jaccoud-type lupus arthropathy).

Organ transplantation is a treatment of modern medicine and technology that saves the lives of hundreds and thousands of medically suitable end-stage organ failure patients. The first successful kidney transplantation from living-related donors in Bangladesh was successfully performed in 1982 and regularly from 1988. This was then followed by deceased cornea in 1984, and liver and bone marrow from living-related donors in 2010 and 2014 respectively. The Human Organ Transplantation Act was first passed by the parliament of Bangladesh in1999, allowing both brain death donation and living-related

In congenital vestibular disorders (CVDs), children develop an abnormal inner ear before birth and face postnatal challenges to maintain posture, balance, walking, eye-hand coordination, eye tracking, or reading. Only limited information on inner ear pathology is acquired from clinical imaging of the temporal bone or studying histological slides of the temporal bone. A more comprehensive and precise assessment and determination of the underlying mechanisms necessitate analyses of the disorders at the cellular level, which can be achieved using animal models. Two main criteria for a suitable an
