Disclosure decisions of persons with genital HPV infection were examined. The research questions focused on relationships among knowledge of transmission, beliefs about the obligation to disclose knowledge of HPV infection to sexual partners, factors that influence the disclosure decision, and evaluations of the decision. Participants were 92 persons diagnosed with HPV 6 months prior to data collection. Sixty-three women and 29 men whose average age was 23.1 years constituted the sample. A subset of 48 persons provided detailed information about their reasons for disclosing or not disclosing k

PURPOSE: To identify the psychosocial and behavioral factors that influence condom use to reduce the risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection among young men in Ghana.
METHODS: This study used a cross-sectional design in which data on a community-based sample of 601 young men, 15-24 years of age, were collected by a household survey instrument. For a conceptual framework, the study used constructs from the Health Belief Model (HBM) and Social Learning Theory (SLT) in the Ghanaian context.
RESULTS: While 65% of the sexually active male respondents had used condoms at least once, o

OBJECTIVES: The social context within which women engaged in sex work at a popular truck stop in South Africa are placed at risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and the factors that influence their ability to reduce their risk were assessed.
METHODS: Using qualitative and quantitative techniques, an elected sex worker from within the group collected all data.
RESULTS: Given the various pressing needs for basic survival, the risk of HIV infection is viewed as one more burden imposed on these women by their lack of social, legal, and economic power. Violence, or the threat ther

OBJECTIVES: In recent years, Indigenous health curricula have been integrated into medical education in response to international calls to improve Indigenous health care. Instruments to evaluate Indigenous health education are urgently needed. We set out to validate a tool to measure self-reported medical student preparedness to provide culturally safe care to Indigenous Peoples. We then applied the tool to evaluate the effectiveness of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University's (NOSM U) Indigenous health curriculum.
METHODS: We conducted psychometric testing of a 46-item draft NOSM

INTRODUCTION: Few African countries have introduced a birth dose of hepatitis B vaccine (HepB-BD) despite a World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation. HepB-BD given within 24 hours of birth, followed by at least two subsequent doses, is 90% effective in preventing perinatal transmission of hepatitis B virus. This article describes findings from assessments conducted to document the knowledge, attitudes, and practices surrounding HepB-BD implementation among healthcare workers in five African countries.
METHODS: Between August 2015 and November 2016, a series of knowledge, attitude and pr

Primary care providers (PCPs) in Canada frequently report limited knowledge and confidence in prescribing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). To address this gap, we developed and evaluated an online educational module designed to enhance PCPs' knowledge and PrEP-related clinical skills. Pre- and post-training surveys (n = 38 and n = 20, respectively) showed substantial improvements: understanding of PrEP eligibility increased by 46%; knowledge of medications and monitoring by 55-180%; skills in medication management by 57-68%; skills in client monitoring by 47-84%; and knowledge regarding Pr

Despite representing a disproportionately high percentage of new HIV diagnoses in France annually, women who have migrated from Sub-Saharan Africa (WMSSA) remain underserved by HIV prevention strategies, including Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). This study aimed to understand healthcare providers' experiences and attitudes toward PrEP delivery to WMSSA within family planning centers (FPCs) of the Paris region in France. We conducted a web-based cross-sectional survey from February to June 2024 to explore the knowledge, attitudes, and experiences of providers in FPCs in Paris and Seine-Saint-D

Vaccine hesitancy poses a significant challenge to worldwide public health and has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to heightened polarization and the spread of misinformation. Addressing vaccine hesitancy requires multifaceted strategies in which healthcare professionals (HCPs) play a critical role. Nonetheless, HCPs may also be hesitant toward vaccination. The 31-item original Pro-VC-Be tool, designed to measure the psychosocial determinants of vaccine attitudes in HCPs, was first validated in France, French-speaking Belgian regions, and Quebec (Canada). The validity of a s

South Africa has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the world, with women and girls bearing the greatest burden. Although HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is effective, data on its implementation in rural South Africa remain limited. Our study explores how female nurses in Msinga, South Africa, navigate communal hopes and anxieties regarding PrEP for women. Using an intersectional framework, we conducted semistructured interviews with health care providers and engaged in thematic analysis with a sample of female nurses employed in Msinga, South Africa, to understand their perspective

Primary care providers (PCPs) play a key role in vaccine recommendations and uptake, but limited information exists about PCP knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding herpes zoster (HZ) vaccination. Clinical trials have shown that recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) significantly reduces the risk of developing HZ. Hence, RZV is recommended by the US Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for adults aged ≥50 years and immunocompromised adults aged ≥19 years. However, RZV uptake varies across age groups, and is lower for adults aged 50-59 compared to those aged ≥60 years. Using a
