The article is devoted to an investigation of intravenous analgesia with different narcotic analgetic drugs (phentanyl, morphine, dipidolor). A comparative assessment of the influence upon central hemodynamics, lung ventilation, acid-base metabolism and blood gases was performed, as well as the degree of analgesia in using these drugs. A conclusion is made that morphine and phentanyl are preferable for the intravenous postoperative autoanalgesia.

We describe the absorption of chlortetracycline from the emptied hydrocele sac, which was instilled to treat a primary hydrocele of the testis. The study included 7 patients and 2 control subjects who were given 500 mg. chlortetracycline. There is considerable evidence that angiotensin II (Ang II) attenuates the baroreflex control of heart rate (HR), but the mechanism and site of this action have not been precisely defined. In the present study the effects of systemically and centrally administered Ang II on the baroreflex control of HR were investigated in conscious, chronically prepared rabbits. Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) is a method of administering narcotics in which the patient activates a machine to administer a small bolus of narcotic. In the first year of PCA use in our hospital, 26 patients used PCA. We suggest a dose volume of 0.015 mg/kg/dose and a 4-hour limit of 0.25 mg/kg/4 hr, with a lock-out of 10 minutes. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of intravenous cocaine on the coronary circulation in the dog. Sixteen beagles separated into three groups were administered either cocaine (n = 8) or lidocaine (n = 4) at doses of 0.4, 2.0, and 10.0 mg/kg under conditions of constant coronary blood flow. A third group of beagles (n = 4) was administered cocaine under conditions of natural coronary blood flow. In the first group, the lowest dose of cocaine had no significant effect on coronary perfusion pressure, even though it increased mean systemic arterial pressure by 10% (p less than 0.05)
