Laryngeal dystonia is a focal dystonia occurring more often than it is diagnosed. Adductor type dystonia was described in 5 patients. In 3 cases it manifested itself as blepharospasm, which later developed into Meige's syndrome. The patients were treated with botulinum toxin A injections under EMG control administering 10 i.m. into laryngeal muscles on both sides with good and very good results. The authors submit a retrospective investigation of 50 patients hospitalized at the intensive care unit of the Medical gastroenterological department, Faculty Hospital Brno treated in 1999 with the diagnosis of acute haemorrhage into the upper digestive tract. METHODS: A community sample of 4,581 persons > or = 65 years old from the Cardiovascular Health Study completed an asthma questionnaire and underwent spirometry. During a follow-up examination of the cohort, 1,836 persons agreed to measure PEF at home twice daily for 2 weeks, and 90% successfully obtained at least 4 days of valid measurements.
