BACKGROUND: Fitzpatrick skin phototype (FSPT) is the most common method used to assess sunburn risk and is an independent predictor of skin cancer risk. Because of a conventional assumption that FSPT is predictable based on pigmentary phenotypes, physicians frequently estimate FSPT based on patient appearance.

Very few histologic reports describe normal melanocytes of the nail unit. Previous studies predominantly address the distal nail matrix melanocytes; we found no review of nail-bed melanocytes in the literature. Sunlight exposure induces signalling pathways leading to the activation of melanin synthesis and tanning response. Patients with Cushing syndrome (n = 122) who underwent adrenalectomy from 1957 through 1993 were reviewed for survival and complications. Of the 122 patients, 70 had adrenocortical adenoma, 30 Cushing's disease, 6 primary pigmented nodular adrenocortical disease (PPNAD), 7 other types of primary nodular hyperplasia, 5 adrenocortical carcinoma, and 4 ectopic ACTH syndrome. BACKGROUND: Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS), also known as diffuse tenosynovial giant cell tumor, is a rare, benign but aggressive synovial proliferative disorder.
