The effect of pretreatment with barbiturates or diazepam on the in vivo metabolism of halothane or enflurane (92 ppm) was investigated upon application by inhalation. In male rats exposed to halothane the elimination half-life from the atmosphere of the closed exposure system amounted to 0.64 h; pretreatment with thiopental or methohexital (40 mg/kg i.p.) caused a small, but significant prolongation of the half-life (1.3 or 1.4-fold), whereas hexobarbital (75 or 100 mg/kg i.p.) had no effect in this respect. In this study additional cardiotoxic models were used to evaluate disulfiram's antiarrhythmogenicity. Long-term administration of carbon tetrachloride to rats has produced proteinuria and histopathologic glomerular alterations. The present study was done to determine the effect of prior reduction of renal mass on the long-term nephrotoxicity of carbon tetrachloride. Female Sprague-Dawley rats with uninephrectomy received twice-weekly intraperitoneal injections of either corn oil or corn oil with 0.05 to 0.1 ml carbon tetrachloride. In this paper the impregnating ability of rats in whom a varicocoele was induced according to principles described in a previous work was assessed. The animals, 20 adult male Wistar rats, were subdivided into 4 groups and treated as follows. In Group 1 a varicocoele was produced by partial ligature of the iliac vein proximal to the entry of the testicular vein. Group 2: same as Group 1 but incomplete ligature. In Group 3 an anterior transposition of the common iliac artery to the vein was carried out. In Group 4 a small side-to-side fistula between the common iliac artery and vein was created.

The experiment reported here shows that mesovarian leiomyomas may be induced in rats by the administration of 2 chemically distinct adrenergic stimulants, salbutamol or terbutaline. That the induction of these benign tumours is a function of adrenergic stimulation is shown by the fact that the concurrent administration of the adrenergic blocker propranolol prevented their development.
