Large-Scale Study Comparing Analytical and Diagnostic Quality of Three HPV Self-Sampling Devices for At-Home Cervical Cancer Screening.

Elimination of cervical cancer requires broad access to and participation in cervical screening. Self-sampling has emerged as a robust technology that simplifies access; however, few self-sampling devices are independently validated regarding sample quality. This study compares the quality of three self-sampling devices: Evalyn (Rovers), currently used in Denmark, the FLOQSwab (Copan) and the modified FLOQSwab: SensiGrip. Women residing in the Capital Region of Denmark, accepting screening by self-sampling, were offered a kit containing the following combinations of devices: (1) Evalyn, FLOQSw

The intrinsic functional connectivity of psychopathy and its relation to self-control.

Previous research has found functional connectivity in various networks to be altered in psychopathy and has theorised a link between these networks and the self-control-related deficits observed in psychopathy. However, this theory has yet to be tested adequately and empirically. The present study investigated the association between psychopathy, self-control, and intrinsic functional connectivity in 179 healthy adults from the MPI Leipzig Mind Brain Body dataset. Participants completed an affective switching task and questionnaires relating to psychopathy and self-control and underwent resti

Efficacy of a cognitive training based on inhibitory spillover and attribute conditioning: No weight and food intake reductions in adults with overweight and obesity.

BACKGROUND: Overeating and obesity have been linked to deficient self-control and recent evidence suggests that the inhibitory spillover effect (ISE) may be an effective means to improve self-control. Specifically, it was shown that the ISE increases self-control by transfer of self-control capacity from one domain to another unrelated domain. Against this backdrop, our aim was to reduce hedonic food intake and body weight in non-dieting participants with overweight and obesity by transferring inhibitory control abilities from a food-unrelated domain to the food domain by means of an attribute

Emotional reactivity and past self-injurious behavior moderate the association between trauma exposure and fearlessness about death.

INTRODUCTION: As suicide remains a global public health concern, recent work has sought to characterize mechanisms underlying the transition from suicidal ideation to action. Acquired capability for suicide, or fearlessness about death, has been identified as one key factor underlying this transition; however, understanding how this capability emerges remains limited. This study sought to extend previous work on the correlates of fearlessness about death by examining its relationship with painful and provocative events and emotional reactivity. METHODS: We tested the extent to which trait emo

The mGlu5 receptor negative allosteric modulator mavoglurant reduces escalated cocaine self-administration in male and female rats.

RATIONALE: Cocaine use disorder (CUD) is a brain disorder for which there is no Food and Drug Administration-approved pharmacological treatment. Evidence suggests that glutamate and metabotropic glutamate receptor subtype 5 (mGlu5) play critical roles in synaptic plasticity, neuronal development, and psychiatric disorders. OBJECTIVE: In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that the mGlu5 receptor is functionally involved in intravenous cocaine self-administration and assessed the effects of sex and cocaine exposure history. METHODS: We used a preclinical model of CUD in rats that were

Bridging maladaptive social self-beliefs and social anxiety: a network perspective.

The Clark and Wells (1995) model of social anxiety disorder postulates that three types of maladaptive social self-beliefs (high standard, conditional, and unconditional beliefs) play a crucial role in the development of fear and avoidance of social-evaluative situations-i.e., the hallmark symptoms of social anxiety disorder. In this project, we examined associations between the three types of maladaptive social self-beliefs and fear and avoidance of social-evaluative situations in a nonclinical community sample (n = 389). We used network analysis to estimate functional relations among aspects

Narcissistic traits as predictors of emotional problems in children with oppositional defiant disorder: A longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Children's self-views encompass two independent dimensions: self-esteem and narcissism, which recently have received growing attention from researchers and clinicians. The current study sought to test whether these dimensions might predict the developmental course of children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder diagnosis. METHOD: The sample (N = 64, M age = 10.1 years, 57 boys) included children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder diagnosis. We examined longitudinal relationships between self-views (both self-esteem and narcissism) and parent-reported internalizing and externalizing

Patients with Kawasaki Disease Have Significantly Low Aerobic Metabolism Capacity and Peak Exercise Load Capacity during Adolescence.

INTRODUCTION: Kawasaki disease (KD) is a childhood illness causing blood vessel inflammation. Children with KD have similar cardiopulmonary function to healthy children, but lower moderate-to-vigorous activity and exercise self-efficacy-possibly harming their cardiopulmonary function in adolescence. The purpose of this study is to investigate the cardiopulmonary function, exercise behaviors, exercise motivations, and self-efficacy of adolescents who once had KD. METHODS: adolescents who once had KD and adolescents matched to the KD group in age and sex were enrolled. The cardiopulmonary exerc

Self-perceived overweight, weight loss attempts, and weight gain: Evidence from two large, longitudinal cohorts.

OBJECTIVE: Self-identification of overweight is associated with a greater desire to lose weight, but also counterintuitively with increased future weight gain. The present research examined whether weight loss attempts mediate the prospective relation between self-perceived weight status and weight gain across adolescence and young adulthood. METHOD: Data from 2 longitudinal cohort studies was used. Study 1 tested whether the association between self-perceived weight status and weight gain (from age 10/11-14/15 years) was mediated by weight loss attempts among Australian adolescents. Study 2

Implicit aggressiveness in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder as assessed by an Implicit Association Test.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Cognitive models of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) highlight the role of cognitive biases for the development of the disorder. One of these biases, an inflated sense of responsibility has been associated with higher anger scores and latent aggression on self-report scales, especially in patients with compulsive checking. Validity of self-report assessment is, however, compromised by inaccuracy, social desirability, and low metacognitive awareness of traits and behaviors in patients. The aim of the present study was to extend the research on latent aggression in

Consistency of traumatic brain injury reporting in older adults with and without cognitive impairment.

OBJECTIVE: Medical history information regarding prior traumatic brain injury (TBI) usually relies on self-report, although little is known about the reliability of this information with regard to injuries sustained years or decades earlier. Even less is known about the reliability of self-reported medical history information in older individuals with cognitive impairment. To this end, we assessed the test-retest reliability of self-reported TBI history in a large, national sample. METHODS: Participants (n = 4309) were older adults with intact cognition, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Al

White Matter Volume Mediates the Relationship Between Self-Efficacy and Mobility in Older Women.

UNLABELLED: Background/Study Context: With our aging population, understanding determinants of healthy aging is a priority. One essential component of healthy aging is mobility. Although self-efficacy can directly impact mobility in older adults, it is unknown what role brain health may play in this relationship. METHODS: The authors conducted a cross-sectional pilot analysis of community-dwelling women (N = 80, mean age = 69 years) to examine whether brain volume mediates the relationship between falls-related self-efficacy, as measured by the Activities-specific Balance Confidence (ABC) sca

One-year follow-up of guided self-help for parents of preschool children with externalizing behavior.

Self-help programs are an effective intervention for parents of children with externalizing behavior. A number of studies have shown that self-administered parent training has positive short-term effects on a child's behavior, but there is little research done on long-term outcomes. This paper reports results from a 1-year follow-up of a randomized controlled prevention trial of self-administered parent training with minimal therapist contact. In the initial prevention trial, we randomly assigned 48 preschool children with elevated levels of externalizing behavior to either a treatment group (
