BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is a common, acquired, pigmentary disorder characterized by the loss of melanocytes. In this study, we evaluated the ophthalmalogic abnomalies of patients with vitiligo with regard to tear functions.
METHODS: The patients and control subjects underwent examinations via the Schirmer's test, tear film break-up time (BUT), and Rose Bengal staining.

Female adnexal tumor of probable Wolffian origin (FATWO) is a rare neoplasm arising from the remnants of the mesonephric duct. We report here a case of FATWO in a 70-year-old woman arising from the broad ligament and confirmed on immunohistochemistry. Most of these tumors behave in a benign fashion but certain histological features like hypercellularity, cellular pleomorphism and nuclear atypia as seen in the index case may increase the rate of recurrence and metastasis. Therefore, close follow-up is recommended for FATWO.

PURPOSE: Extracellular matrix remodeling is thought to have profound effects on tissue architecture and associated function. We have shown previously that overexpression of transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ), which stimulates matrix accumulation, results in altered morphology, cataract, and ocular hypertension in rodents. We have further shown that TGFβ-induced cataracts can be mitigated through inhibition of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) MMP-2 and MMP-9. The establishment of a blood vessel network is fundamental to embryonic development and plays a critical role in many diseases including coronary heart disease and cancer. Vascular endothelial cells are central players in blood vessel formation and line the inside of the entire blood vessel system. PECAM-1 is expressed in all types of endothelial cells and is therefore a useful marker for the detection of blood vessels. In this manuscript, we describe PECAM-1 staining in whole-mount and sectioned tissues in mouse embryos.
