Radiopaque intestinal calculi are occasionally observed in pet cockatiels. When large calculi are suspected of causing intestinal obstruction, medical therapy is unlikely to improve the condition, making surgical removal the appropriate treatment. However, surgical intervention is problematic owing to its high invasiveness. Recently, numerous human studies have demonstrated the efficacy of oral cola therapy for various gastrointestinal calculi. Here, we report a case of ileus in a cockatiel due to a large small-intestinal calculus, in which oral cola therapy achieved remarkable success.

The study was performed to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of Benfotiamine (BFT) in 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced Parkinson's disease (PD) in rats.
