OBJECTIVE: To present the findings and discuss the diagnostic possibilities of helical CT angiography and digital substraction angiography, and to compare their capabilities to depict renal vascular anatomy (arterial and venous) and the pathological changes.

The paper deals with 2 cases of unilateral tumor of the carotid body, in men aged 46 and 51. The diagnosis, prior to surgery, was achieved through ultrasonographic and scanner studies, as well as conventional or selective angiography (digital subtraction). Spontaneous retrograde dissection of the right common iliac artery incidentally imaged by intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography (IADSA) and confirmed by contrast infusion computed tomography (CT) is reported. This is the first case report of this extremely rare condition, but histologic verification could not be obtained. The usefulness of IADSA in mapping during catheterization complicated by marked resistance is underscored.

The authors describe their technique of intravenous digital subtraction angiography (IVDSA) and discuss the results in cerebral infarcts. IVDSA is a good first stage examination for the recognition of stenosis or occlusion of cervical vessels to the brain, as it is an only marginally invasive and easy technique. It is, however, good neither for the study of focal cervical not of intracranial areas.

A 20-year-old man with sarcoidosis presented with the echocardiographic findings of cor triatriatum. Computed tomography of the chest and digital subtraction angiography of the heart revealed that the patient had massive retrocardiac lymphadenopathy and normal cardiac anatomy. This is the first report demonstrating the echolucency of sarcoid lymphadenopathy and the mimicking of cor triatriatum by such adenopathy fortuitously positioned.

The new imaging techniques (ultrasound, CT, digital subtraction angiography) have greatly modified the diagnostic approach to the endocrinopathies in pediatric age, notably if of surgical interest. The main clinical indications to the ultrasound and/or CT study of hypophysis, thyroid, adrenals and female internal genital tract are synthesized in this paper. A diagnostic flow-chart is also suggested for each clinical entity.

Awareness of persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC), a rare congenital variant is helpful to a clinician to avoid the unnecessary complications. We report a case of PLSVC in a patient with chronic kidney disease which was identified following a difficult catheterization into the right internal jugular vein (IJV). The catheterization was attempted through the left IJV and the position of which could not be confirmed with check radiograph and two-dimensional echo. PLSVC was suspected in the computed tomography angiography and was confirmed following digital subtraction angiography.
