Vertigo is an illusion of rotation due to a disorder of the vestibular system, almost always peripheral. In the history it must be distinguished from pre-syncope, seizures and panic attacks. A single attack of acute, isolated spontaneous vertigo lasting a day or more is due either to vestibular neuritis or cerebellar infarction; distinguishing between the two requires mastery of the head impulse test. Recurrent vertigo is mostly due to benign paroxysmal positioning vertigo (BPPV), Meniere's disease or migraine. With a good history, a positional test, an audiogram and a caloric test, it is usua

The literature review is devoted to the practical application of the method of recording vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs) in the diagnosis of the inner ear diseases: superior semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome, Meniere's disease, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), vestibular neuritis. Registration of VMEP is an electrophysiological research method that allows to assess objectively the functional state of the otolith receptors (sacculus and utriculus) and their pathways, which expands the diagnostic capabilities in diagnosis of the inner ear diseases.

INTRODUCTION: Nystagmus is a valuable clinical finding. Although nystagmus is often described by the direction of its quick phases, it is the slow phase that reflects the underlying disorder. The aim of our study was to describe a new radiological diagnostic sign called "Vestibular Eye Sign"-VES. This sign is defined as an eye deviation that correlates with the slow phase of nystagmus (vestibule pathological side), which is seen in acute vestibular neuronitis and can be assessed on a CT head scan.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 1250 patients were diagnosed with vertigo in the Emergency Dep

Dizziness is a common and challenging condition seen in the primary care office. Because dizziness is a vague term that can include a wide array of medical disorders, it is important to use a stepwise approach to differentiate between causes. This article focuses on vertigo and its four most common causes: benign paroxysmal peripheral vertigo, vestibular neuritis, vestibular migraine, and Meniere's disease.

We present temporal bone and clinical evidence that common syndromes of recurrent vertigo are caused by a viral infection of the vestibular ganglion. In the present series, histopathologic and radiologic changes in the vestibular ganglion and meatal ganglion were consistent with a viral inflammation of ganglion cells in cases of Meniere's disease, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, and vestibular neuronitis. Clinical observations of multiple neuropathies involving cranial nerves V, VII, and VIII on the same side in patients with recurrent vertigo are best explained by a cranial polyganglion…

Recent advancements in diagnosis and treatment of inner ear disorders, including benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, Meniere's disease, and vestibular neuritis, have significantly improved patient care. In this review, new technologies such as video head impulse testing, dynamic posturography, virtual reality, and mechanical rotation chairs have enhanced diagnostic accuracy and facilitated improved and targeted treatment, which are addressed. Furthermore, rapid and consistent use of vestibular rehabilitation has proven effective in reducing vertiginous symptoms and improving overall balance …

INTRODUCTION: A case of complex poly-trauma requiring multi-service management of rare, diagnoses is reviewed.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A healthy 20 year old female suffered double epidural hematoma, base of, skull fracture, traumatic cranial nerve X palsy, benign positional paroxysmal vertigo and supraorbital, neuralgia following equestrian injury.
DISCUSSION: Epidemiology, differential diagnosis, and principles of management for each condition, are reviewed.
CONCLUSION: Coordinated trauma care is well suited to address the complex poly trauma following, equestrian injury.

Like Joseph Toynbee and Karl Wittmaack before him, Harold Schuknecht understood that studying pathology was the key to advancing the scientific basis of neurotology. His work elucidated the pathophysiology of the most common neurotologic disorders, including benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, Meniere's disease, and viral neurolabyrinthitis. Schuknecht was a tireless crusader against medical and surgical treatments that he considered to have little scientific foundation. His textbook Pathology of the Ear remains the definitive work in the field.

BACKGROUND: Water is a vital nutrient for the human body system and failing to consume enough water could cause health problems. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between water intake and vestibular system disorders.
METHODS: Data from 93 patients (aged between 20 and 76 years) with vestibular disorders were analyzed in the study. The mean age of the patients was 46.96 ±13.94 years (female: 45.68 ±13.45, male: 49.96 ±14.85), and 69.9% (n=65) were female. Participants were sub-categorized into diagnostic groups as follows: benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, Menier…
