Clozapine is an atypical antipsychotic medication with proven efficacy in the management of refractory schizophrenia. It is also recommended for patients who do not tolerate the extrapyramidal adverse effects of traditional antipsychotic medications. The combination of sodium thiosulfate and sodium nitrite has been used in the United States since the 1930s as the primary antidote for cyanide intoxication. Although this combination was shown to exhibit much greater efficacy than either ingredient alone, the two compounds could not be used prophylactically because each exhibits a number of side effects. This review discusses the pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology of the individual agents, and their combination.

Ranitidine and oxmetidine are newly developed histamine H2-receptor antagonists without any antiandrogenic activity and probably without drug interactions. In numerous clinical trials ranitidine has been proven to be at least as effective as cimetidine in the short- and long-term treatment of peptic ulcer disease. Ranitidine was found to be remarkably safe. Its therapeutic use in man should not be associated with significant adverse reactions.
